THANKS!

Have you heard that Ken Starr -- and the Prop 8 Legal Defense Fund -- filed legal briefs defending the constitutionality of Prop 8 and is attempting to forcibly divorce 18,000 same-sex couples that were married in California last year? The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in this case on March 5, 2009, with a decision expected within the next 90 days.

The Courage Campaign has created a video called "Fidelity," with the permission of musician Regina Spektor, that puts a face to those 18,000 couples and all loving, committed couples seeking full equality under the law.

Please watch this heartbreaking video: (the link below)

After you watch the video, please consider joining me in signing the letter to the state Supreme Court and passing this video on to your friends. The more people who see this video, the more people will understand the pain caused by Prop 8 and Ken Starr's shameful legal proceeding.

Thanks.

I was sent that message and signed the petition. I did not watch the video, as I knew instinctively it would be heartbreaking.

I'll do whatever I can to support the cause as long as necessary; meanwhile I cope by believing that one day this nightmare will end and things will be as they should be.

I was always very curious, as far as DOMA goes, just exactly what it was they were "Defending"??? If it's the right to fuck up the "institution" of marriage, well, I guess they've succeeded.

I had read in the LA Times that Starr filed a brief to overturn the marriages performed during the brief time (until Prop 8 passed) when same sex marriages were legal.

This is the same fellow who led us down two years of impeachment chaos over Bill Clinton's (legal, if unethical) fling with Monica Lewinsky.

This is what comes

of letting our guard down and assuming things are getting better. Just look at the blue-rinsed ladies around here. And this is a gay-friendly site!

The only way any group has ever achieved human rights in the US was by fighting to get in politicians who gave a fcuk about them.

Politicians do change things, they are not all the same. Yes, in Obama we finally have a president who can read and speak English. But that doesn't mean we are out of the woods. He has to keep his campaign promise to us fairly soon, the christianists are still out there.

And before the blue-rinsed ladies jump on me again, that was 'christianist' not Christian. If you don't know the difference, google it.

Interesting

thread. Thanks to all for keeping this front & center here.

Keven, may I ask that you preview & edit your messages carefully. Having trouble understanding your dislike/anger towards others here.

Leslie

Leslie

I thank you for your civility.

I am not angry or hostile towards the club or the vast majority of members here.

Since the Austin incident (the slimy racist bastard who did so much harm and caused so much hurt to the those here and in the 'other' club who are either black skinned or partnered with those who are), I have been under constant attack (hate-mails, attacks here, reports to the FBI for pity's sake) by a small group of people here. Since you are on their approved list, you don't get any of their hateful fallout.

The last year things really got nasty - surely, you will remember the 'tick-tock' postings and the 'Robert said I could attack you' postings...

This week alone, I have had four emails of such nastiness, it is hard to fathom.

I am an avid collector and have been helped enormously by many here. I try and sometimes have succeeded in helping others here, too.

But I am a firm believer in the US Constitution, gay rights and the equality of the races. When I speak of 'christianists', I do not mean 'Christians'. It is unfortunate that the very conservative Catholics here have not figured that out, but it can't be helped.

So - sorry it bothers you. I have asked them to leave me alone many times, but the last email warning me that I was not to post on this thread went too far.

By the by, it is not just me under attack - all the guys in the club who are either nice conservatives (several of them) or outright liberals/progressives get hit regularly. I seem to draw the most outright venom from mickeyd and the sock puppet.

The ironic thing of it is, I doubt I would have said a word on this thread had they not told me I might not. My views are very much the same as Kevin's and Samantha's on the topic.

So, Leslie - I know how much you have helped others here and I also know that you move in circles here which expose you to a lot of the hatred towards me. I'd be happy to send you copies of the nastiness the blue-rinsed ladies send me on every topic I post to...but I think this is enough.

Again, I love this club and am happy to be here. But the 'tick-tock' faction is not going to muzzle me. I oppose racism and if they don't like it, well, fcuk them.

Keven, you seem to get alot of mileage out of what Austin - an 18 year old boy, did. Drop it already. No one ever condoned his actions here, but like most normal people, we tend to forgive people for their mistakes. You're the one that can't seem to let it go. And he was an 18 YEAR OLD BOY whose mother had taught him much better. So freakin let it go already. It's the past, leave it there. He screwed up, no doubt, and he payed for it.

It's you people don't like, not your views, which aren't a whole lot different than most people here. It's the way you come across to people; you have a superiority complex my friend, which you shouldn't have because you're not better than anybody, you just act that way sometimes. That may not be your intention, and I'm sure it's not, but it's how you come across all too often. If you wonder why folks here dislike you (no, I'm definitely not one of them), this is a big reason. You have a poor way of communicating to others on this forum, and for someone who claims to be a teacher, I find this surprising. Communication should be your art. If people attack you consistently, as you say, then take a giant step back and ask yourself why. No, you don't have to EVER agree with anyone here...but there is a right way and a wrong way to express yourself...you don't always pick the right way. You have completely misinterpreted things said here, and instead of trying to clarify people's intentions, you come back in a condescending or accusatory tone. You've done it to me a couple of times and you were flat out wrong.

Again, not meant to hurt your feelings, and I'll apologize in advance if you feel maligned, but you keep harping on this, and it's just getting old at this point. I can't control what other folks think and say, but you can do something about their perceptions of you. Let's face it, it wouldn't be much fun if everyone thought the same way, but there is much value in diversity.
