After being stored away for years, I finally unearthed my collection of slow-cookers/Crock Pots/cooker-fryers/bean pots and decided that I should actually use them once in a while.
My mom got on the slow-cooker bandwagon in the mid-70's when the fad really came on strong. Who remembers Mable Hoffman and her "Crockery Cookery" books? Mom had a few of them to go along with her two-piece West Bend Lazy-Day slow cooker, which didn't have a piece of crockery on it but instead was an enameled steel pot that sat on top of a warming unit. She loved it and fed our hungry family many, many good meals from that slow simmering pot.
I picked out a Rival Crock-Pot from the 70's that was bright orange with a separate plug-in heat control. I had just bought a cut up whole chicken from our local market the day before, and some fresh asparagus. So this was dinner on Saturday night!
