Well our Metro system, the system you can depend on to leave you stranded when you need it most, has announced that it is closing its above ground operations at 1 PM. Of course, that leaves a lot of underground stations without service because they are not going to keep trains running under the city on some lines. If you have trouble understanding that, welcome to the club. Then there are the poor souls who took the Metro to work today who won't be able to use it to get home. After every big storm and shutdown, they have retrofitted things. Covers over the third rail, then heaters under those when snow lodged between the third rail and the cover. Then they modified the air intakes for the cooling systems for the motors and electronic components when powdery snow got sucked in and shorted out the components that needed cooling. If the parking lot is even half plowed on Monday morning,I will be surprised. There will be no treatment after that so until the snow is gone, what melts and refreezes overnight is just an added skating thrill for riders walking from car to station.
Snow is falling at well over an inch an hour. At least it is relatively light weight snow.
