My parents had the larger version of your range, and I want to say that it was purchased in either 1959 or early 1960. I say that for even though I was four years old in 1960, I remember moving to the new house that year, and the Norge went with us. Our Norge shared the same knobs, clock, and design as yours, though it had a fluorescent light across the top that we used to leave on when we would be away from home in the evening.
I agree about baking, as I learned how to bake with that range, and haven't had the same results since moving out on my own and owning a series of ranges. I sold my parents' house two years ago, and that range is still in use by the new owners. I would have kept it, but with five doors in my kitchen, and counter configurations, I have to have a 30" range (that, plus the fact that I have my own gas from wells on the property, causing me to cook with gas).
Seeing the photos that you posted brought back many a memory. I wonder if Norge offered youur range in gas and 30"?

My friend Jay has a range that looks alot like the one priced at $199 in his condo, also in Avocado. I think his lacks a clock, though. It's in excellent condition, as he hardly ever uses it. His building was constructed in the late 60's-early 70's as an apartment complex, so everything was builder grade.

That 67 Hotpoint was one of my least favorite panel styles, it just looks "builder" and I saw far too many of them in apartments and new homes of the time - mostly in avocado and harvest gold. Blech! Perhaps in white and TOL with lights would make a huge difference in its appeal.
Not sure of the year on this baby but it was on CL a while back so I went to have a look. It had been in an apartment so the picture posted in the ad turned out to be much more flattering that real-life. It's a very attractive design though, that stainless top really sets it off.

Look what popped up on our local CL today - in Victory Red they say!
The $199 range was what my grandmother had, but one year earlier...hers didn't have the cooktop element pilot light or the cooktop fluorescent light, but did have the timer/timed outlet. White, no window in the door.
GE/Hotpoint question...
Am I correct in remembering Hotpoint as the low end product line of GE? Didn't GE buy Hotpoint in the mid 60's? If not when?

Hotpoint has been associated with General Electric since 1918. I don't believe it started to become considered as their "low-end" line until the late 60's. In the 50's their products seem to have been equal to or above those of GE's own line.

It seems to me that Hotpoint was a lot like Olsamobile,just as GM tried out new ideas on the Olds before Cadillac or Buick,So was Hotpoint to GE,I always thoucht Hotpoint was more Deluxe,They invented the Calrod unit,had lighted pushbuttons before GE did,rotisseries etc.

Always thought these were attractively designed combinations - the graphics and colors were well planned but the quality was so-so.

Interesting. For some reason I thought they were a separate brand for some time. I saw the similarity in later models, Hotpoint in the 60's and forward always seemed like a knock off brand. I recall the Hotpoint dishwasher ads from the 50's and thought of it then as a more upscale brand.
