Let's Try the Filter Flo

With both of my Frigidaires out of commission, I decided to give the 1964 GE Filter-Flo a try. Just like the 1-18, I know the GE was operating perfectly when I got it. And just like the 1-18, sitting in the garage was not kind to it.

She passed the dry spin test with no problems. But when I filled it with some water, there were leaks. First one was by the pump assembly with the recirc hose. I took the clamp off and found...

This. The hose developed cracks at the clamp and a bit further up.

The other leak was from the suds-saver/drain diverter. There were drips along the bottom edge.

If there's one thing I've learned here..

It's how to get creative when you can't call up the appliance repair for a spare part. So with a couple of parts from the plumbing dept...

I took care of the leaky recirc hose.

Here's the Suds-Saver/Drain diverter assembly out of the machine.

Here's what it look like inside. I can only assume that one of those rubber connections developed a crack. I'll have to take it completely apart to see. In the meantime...

I basically just bypassed the diverter and connected the hose from the pump to a drain hose. Have to make sure the other end of the hose stays up otherwise it's instant gravity drain!

Filled tub with water and checked things out. Success, no leaks!
