So here's my entry in the BobLoad® division. Had a friend over for spaghetti & meatballs tonight. Here's the load:

First, the cutlery rack. I love being able to load silverware and cutlery up here. Have had no problems with quality of cleaning, so far.

Cycle: Power Scrub
Options: Steam

Here's an odd one; The steam option doesn't add time to any cycle (at least not on the countdown timer), but on Power Scrub, it actually subtracts time! The Power Scrub cycle on its own is 2:56. Add the Steam option and it drops to 2:31. Go figure!

Oh Eugene!

You need to forget about the Cascade gel and get yourself some Cascade 2in1 Action Packs with Dawn! =)

Lawrence--- A fine choice in iced coffees! I, myself, am going to indulge in a Caramel Chocolate Brownie on ice. Don't normally dig flavored coffees, except when they're on ice.

Shane--- Got 'em! When loads are full of heavily-soiled pots/pans, I usually opt for liquid Cascade Complete or for really extreme loads, Quixtar's powdered Dish Drops. That way I can easily tailor the dosage to my liking.

Ok I'll bite...why do you hate Cascade so much Laundromat?

Oh on the DishDrops...have you noticed that I think that was reformulated as well....doesnt clean like it used to. What you need to try is those lovely divine Miele dishwasher tabs. Those clean up a storm and they are my go to tabs for extreme loads. the next up is the Finish/Electrasol tabs with prewash ball. Most of the time I use the Cascade Advanced Power powder.

Bob--- The great man speaks! Thanks for the blessing, Bob. Love your Kenmore Elite, too.

Chuck--- Good heavens, why the extreme animosity toward....the 'C' word? 'Splain, please.

Mike--- Damn it! First SA8 goes to hell and now Dish Drops? I ordered 4 boxes last year and am half-way through my last one. I save DD for my worst loads and it never disappoints. Oh, well. I wasn't going to order any more SA8, anyway; Guess I'm a full-time Cascade man, again.

I know its a tad maddening aint it! They shoulda left well enough alone but nooooooo they couldnt. The latest box I have is a month old and I can tell you that its not the same as the last box. Even the scent is different. i wont be buying either DishDrops or SA8 anymore...they lost my business. Even the phosphate free Ecover powder does a better job...sad to say but true.

Love the pics of the racking - a full BobLoad for sure! I was poking and prodding your LG dishwasher the other day at Homo Depot and it is a very impressive machine. I really like the glass touch-controls much better than the buttons. I always think about those Whirlpool d/w's that had the tip-out controls in the panel, if you spilled something above the machine and it ran into the controls...

Very nice dishwasher indeed but 2 1/2 hours - I guess I'd be better off not knowing how long it ran, but that would eventually drive me batty too. Have you tried the WalMart detergent? It's about all I buy now - I know, it's from THAT store, but it's the cheapest place I've found for almost all my work-cleaning supplies. The d/w detergent is outstanding and only $2.60 for a huge box.

Greg, I thought the long cycle times would drive me crazy, but the machine is so quiet I don't even think about it. The Quick cycle is 74 minutes (30 of which is drying time), so I use that cycle when I know I'll have more than two consecutive loads. 45 minutes (canceling the cycle when it hits dry) isn't so bad.

As I've said before, if this LG turns out to be reliable, I'd give it a strong recommendation. I'd definitely go for the TOL 9810 with the cutlery rack. Initially, I thought I'd pull it out and put it in storage, but it's turning out to be one of my favorite features. And the Steam option really helps with pots/pans, especially on the non-epic Normal and Power Scrub cycles.

AGREED!

Gel dishwashing detergent? Aren't these usually problematic in terms of high-sudsing and the clay in them to thicken the product?

Eugene: Glad you like the LG DW. I was pulled to it in the stores as well. Hopefully LG will be good for/to you!

BTW do energy labels (here in the U.S. and in other coutnries) consider electrical usage or just water usage?

Togs--- It is my understanding the Energy Label on appliances is based only on the electrical or electrical/natural gas costs to operate the machine and heat the water it uses.

Here's a little something I found on the internets...

Apparently, we've made some commendable strides in the last 20 years toward making appliances more energy efficient. Notice I did not say the build-quality has improved.
