LG wash cycles...

Well, I'm just curious as there are 3 washers currently on the fritz and one I just plane don't like! Does anyone know:

A) What the difference between the Normal cycle and the Cottons/Towels cycle is?
B) Does this machine actually spin after the wash and between the rinses?

I'd like to have a workhorse machine that I don't really give a rats ass about and actually does a good job! Not to mention, I don't need a top load workhorse, I already have one of those!

Jamie, the towels cycle has a little bit longer default wash perioed and I do believe the extra rinse option is standard. The quick wash cycle does not spin between wash & rinses. All other "regular" type cycles (not delicate) spin between wash & rinses. Best Buy's specs are wrong on this WM2010CW. This machine doesn't have extra hot/cold temp combo, thus no "sanitary" cycle. LG's model designators have an H after the model number for it to have a supplemental heater. If you can cough up the added twoo bucks, I'd suggest the wM2010HW for $799 instead of the Wm2010CW for $599.

Jamie, I have the original LG. Had a lot of problems, it is still working, (leaking at times). I purchased the 10 year extended warranty on the machine, (as with all other appliances I buy there), and the store is willing to give me a give card for what I paid for it plus tax. I can pick out another machine, any brand when I am ready.

I think if you want a workhorse machine, look at the Speed Queen frontloader. Model AFB50R. Check it out on their website. Very simple, Normal cycle has a 24 min wash, Perma Press a 20 min and I cannot remember how long the delicate and bulky cycle is. Also have extra rinse and rinse and spin. The normal cycle with the extra rinse is done in under an hour. The machine is built like a tank. Very solid. You have to check their website to see where they are sold in your area.

I've thought about a Speed Queen frontloader, however, the main problem is that it's just too much money! Besides, if I get an LG, I can get a pretty good discount from the local appliance dealer! Unfortunately, the owner of that store has some weird issue with Speed Queen and refuses to sell their machines! So I could very likely get the LG machine for around $500 vs. over $1,000 for the Speed Queen!

Jaimie, I went to two reputable dealers in my area. And they say so far they have not had any issues and it is a work horse machine. Now for the hi end model one store quoted me a price of of 1600.00 for the afb50r model while our local shop quoted me 1350.00 Includes delivery and set up. Big difference in price. I think the SPeed Queens front loaders use a little more water.

I'm not saying the Speed Queen isn't a workhorse! If I had the money, I'd have it in a heartbeat over the LG! BUT, I just can't justify spending more than about $500 on a washer right now!

Jaime. I know what you meant. Even with the return of my LG to the store and the gift card of approx. 850.00......It is still not enough for the Speed Queen. Just wanted to warn you about the LG's They are good machines, however, tryiung to get parts is hard. The service from the store is great, but I had to wait 2 months for the sprayer mechanism. I could use the washer, so that was not a problem. Maybe the newer models are better?

I bought a used LG and had it for 3 years.It is now owned by an elderly friend along with it's matching electric dryer.I loved the way it worked and never had any problems with it.I liked its quick cycle and the delicate.I also had their small combo.It needed service and,because they couldn't get the correct part in a reasonable time(it took 7 months due to what was claimed to be a company strike,LG extended my warranty another year,parts and labor.

LG's

I own the LG WM2233HW Front Load Washer, LG DLE3733W Dryer. I'm selling my WM2233HW and the DLE3733W for the LG WM3988HWA Washer/Dryer Combo with Steam here in about a month or two. I also recently bought the LG WM2010HW Front Load Washer for "play" and to tinker with at $499.

I love LG washer's dryers - in my own personal opinion, which I know some will laugh at, I feel these are a few steps behind the Miele based on cost and product quality, especially for USA residents. Miele's are so overpriced it's insaine. I don't know why so many people gripe about LG's service issues. I'm a handy guy, and if a pump goes out, order one from Sears PartsDirect or Repairclinic.com and install it yourself. $40 vs waiting for service... try that with a Miele. With my ongoing battle to recoop my $1000+ I've invested in my Miele S7 Vacuum which has a piece of shit hose... oh I'll stop there. I say go for the LG!

Jamie---I know you're no fan of Consumer Reports, but here's what they have to say about the LG 2010:

Washing: Good
Water/Energy Efficiency; Capacity: Excellent
Gentleness: Very Good
Noise: Fair
Resistance to Vibration: Fair

Total Score: 69

By contrast, the $1600 TOL LG Steamwasher 3001 (think that's the number) gets a total score of 80, with better washing and vibration scores.

If you're putting it on a concrete floor, you may have a better experience with vibration issues. If you have soft water and use a high-quality detergent, you may also experience better cleaning than CR gets.

It's hard to say no to a $500 frontloader with the LG's capacity, especially if you're looking for a workhorse machine.

CR does mention that although it doesn't have enough reader response to give it a reliability rating, the information they've gotten so far suggests that LG's are a more repair-prone brand.

Rayjay- I appreciate the warning! However, it seems as though everyone who has used this washer has been incredibly pleased with it minus vibration, noise level during fill, and it's inability to reverse the direction of the door! I have a concrete floor, I don't care about how loud the fill is and I couldn't care less about the door! This machine does not have the recirculating mechanism, so that is one less part to break! I've seen this machine in the past and they seem to have made a few changes to it including a new drum and baffles, perhaps that means they have fixed some other internal components as well? Either way, It will at least be fun to play with!

Laundromat- I'm hoping I don't have the same issue with getting parts if this machine does break, but the bright side is that there are 9 other washers I could use if I need to!

Andrew- I shall have to do a side-by-side comparison of this machine with my insanely overpriced Miele!

Frigilux- I appreciate the info! Although I really don't trust CR ratings, it can still be handy to be aware of what they think! The noise and vibration won't be an issue for me as the machine will be installed on a concrete floor and I tend to prefer louder washers anyway! If the machine does break down, there is a local family owned repair place that just got licensed to fix LG appliances a few months ago, but I could do it myself if I need to! I guess the only issue would be waiting for parts! But, again, I have 9 other washers that I can use!

Jaime. I do like the machine, It does a great job washing and rinsing. The clothes come out clean. It does take a while to balance. MIne is the original one WM2032HW with the controls in the back. I just got a matchine dryer last year a WM0652,,,I think??? It is the best dryer I ever had. Has an ulta low do dry cotton sweaters without shrinking. I think you will be happy with the new washer
