Hi there, I was curious and found an LG washing machine factory video clip on line. I think this is a Russian LG washing machine factory. Though my new LG is made in Poland.

I assume the works is the same across the LG manufacturing operations.

I notice in the video that they have the machines spinning with the back off and the worker is putting the screws in the back. I bet in the UK Health and Safety wouldn't allow it as H&S in the UK is just way over the top.

Very interesting! They have the top off for a reason. They were testing the washers on the spin cycle, to make sure everything is functioning properly, and were putting the top and back panels on.

Water Consumption

They show the water level, much higher then we could have in the US! Wish we could have it that high. Rinsing would be a lot better!

Interesting! I don't have experience with LG products, but I will say the quality is not all that good when it comes to their appliances, but they do make decent electronics. The only good washers and dryers that are built today in the US are Speed Queen!

What amazed me was the pliability of the drum sheet metal material in the Polish video. I thought it very thin, @ 12:34 in the video.

It looks as though Meccano would have greater strength.

It explains why modern machines sound so tinny - as mine does - when clothes are tumbling about.

And it also explains why certain other manufacturers had problems with rupturing drums.

I was pointing out that Health and body in the UK would probably complain and say that testing is not allowed to be completed in that way. They find issues with everything here and are over the top. Some countries are more relaxed.

I don't know about the US, but in the UK, LG washing machines have a very good track record for reliability, they are one of the more expensive machines. Though you do say that you don't have experience of the LG brand, so perhaps, you are not able to provide an actual user reliability experience. Its more of an opinion.

I do have to comment that my LG machines does not sound tinny when tumbling compared to my parents new Bosch machine that makes so much noise when tumbling. I think this is more to do with the sound insulation lacking in some machines. The Bosch does not have a cover underneath, whereas the LG is covered underneath and has additional sound insulation on the sides. The only complaint I have about LG's drums, is the back scratches easily.

On the subject of thin washing machine drums, you just reminded me of Hotpoint-Indesit and Hoover Candy machines that had exploding drums due to poor drum seams. I looked at a Hoover machine on Saturday in Currys, the drum is horrible, like a very thin tin can, sealed together. Not only are the drums ultra thin on Hoovers, but the drum seal rubber is very thin too. The new Hoovers are now made in their Chinese factory.

I liked the slimmer depth of the Hoover machines, but after reading of customer's complaints, and seeing the "Made in PRC" label, I ran away - fast!

I wonder if the lack of tinnyness in the LG, is to do with how the motor is attached directly to the drum. I suppose, basically deadening the noise.

Whereas my Panasonic, with conventional belt drive, rings like a bell.

I don't like seeing "Made In China" ! The only good washers and dryers you can buy in the US are Speed Queen.

actual internal parts may not be made here in the states....

Another thing

If SQ is the only brand you trust for laundry - what do you do about a fridge and dishwasher and range? SQ don't make those.

I do trust other brands other than Speed Queen, but I would rather have a vintage fridge, dishwasher, and stove. I don't like how most, if not all appliances have electronics on them! If Speed Queen made appliances like stoves, dishwashers, and refrigerators that had the same warranty like their washers and dryers have, all of the other appliance manufacturers would have to build quality appliances to keep up with the compitition!

Not always "made in China" means the product is a crap.

TLA washers are made in China (our own plant) and in Brazil (our partner). The only difference is the geographic position...

All the engineering and design is made here in the US and the production is monitored in real time by American engineers.

And before you ask, we will launch super compact front loaders (washer only and washer/dryer all-in-one) this year.

Thanks to Trump, our dream to bring back the production to the US was postponed for at least 4 years. And honestly, i think it will be IMPOSSIBLE, unless we find customers willing to pay $100 for a WonderWash (the hand crank model), $300 for a Nina Soft and $700 for the new SCAW2GEN that will reach the market in September, plus tax and shipping.

Vintage appliances are cool to look at, but do not last forever. Electronic controls are something we have now and are in most cases quite reliable. Even good ole Speed Queen uses electronic controls now on most of their machines. Speed Queen top load washers are the ONLY top loader to buy now, but that really isn't saying too much considering what there is to choose from. It is like comparing a steak to a turd. They are the ONLY top loader that washes like a conventional automatic washer also. Compare a Speed Queen top load machine to the Maytag set you have now. It pales in comparison. The Maytag set you have could very well be the last set you ever need. NOTHING is made like that anymore unfortunately. Speed Queen front loaders are a different story though. Just the features they lack are one reason other brands are better choices. Lack of capacity is another reason. LG does make very good front load washers and dryers, that is certain and they have a good reliability track record too.

I have had a pleasant experience with lg laundry appliances. They are made in Korea but they held up well, shockingly.

Not all LG's are made in Korea now. The 4000 series washer that I have is made right here in the USA. The washer was made in Clarksville , TN...my 4000 dryer is still Korean made, but methinks that will change as well. My LG fridge and dishwasher were made in Korea but my stove was made in Mexico.
