Hi Guys

After seeing Robs pic of the Formil liquid I decided I would pop down and get some as I haven't purchased any for a very long time and fancied trying it again as ive run out of liquid detergent. Anyway found out they have now released the gel version:

Please note in the picture the dosing lid is missing as it's currently in the machine as I type.

Hay Mark :)
i love thw smell of formil gel!
whats good ablut gels if you balance between gel and powder (what i normaly do)
is that if a garment is staind it can be poured on worked in and left to soak before it is put in the wash :)
Tom :)

Do you think

Its any good ?

I have used the Formil liquid for colours but never had any liquid for whites even Ariel was grim on white towels.

So is it worth getting?

I saw that yesterday in Lidl, wondering who makes it. I don't think it is McBrides as Aldi's is.

BTW....am back on the Blue Bold, 90 wash box in poundies for £14

Back to Big box Ariel

It was on special in the cash and carry £18.99 for a 120 wash box and its got a really pleasant smell I am impressed as its always been my favourite.

Hi Tom

I am the same as in I have powder for my whites and liquid/gel for my colours and like you I like how you can pretreat a stain with a bit of liquid. It has a nice smell which just seems to smell clean and fresh on the clothes after they are washed.

Hi Austin

The machine has not finished yet so not sure how it cleans yet. Im testing it on some whites which consist of towels and some mucky tea towels. Im using the 60c Eco programme which is an extended 60c wash which is meant to replace a 90c wash.
The real test will be my work stuff. I work in a kitchen and my uniform includes a white polo shirt which if I dont wear my lovely sexy plastic disposable apron it gets filthy. The worst stain is tomato soup which is a bugger to get out.

Hey Paul my luv!

I have no idea who makes it as like you say it does not look like Mc Brides. Has a different consistency as the McBride gel as its more smooth and runny like a cream rather than a gel.

Hi Paul

I think the normal liquid is here to stay as there were many bottles of the normal liquid and it wasn't on "clearance price" like what tends to happen when products are phased out.

Hi Mark

Glad to hear that. I went to Lidl last weekend and they had none of the colour liquid left - I haven't tried the whites version yet - ended up buying Ariel Colour Gel in Waitrose reduced to £3, not my first choice.

Hi Guys

Just realised part of what I said did not make sense as I said it smelled clean and fresh once the clothes had been washed but then said to Austin I wasn't sure how well it cleans yet. What I meant to say was I wasn't sure how well it cleans heavily soiled items. I did do a darks wash as my first test wash but the items were not heavily soiled and so they all came out clean.

The test wash on the whites (where I would usually use powder) was very good but its only personal opinion. The nasty tea towel did have reminants of some staining but it was burnt grease stains which can be hard to get out. Overall id say it did a good job but I will only be using it for darks/colours. I will though use it on my work tops to test it when they get covered in various food stains and like I mentioned the proper test for me will be if it removes tomato soup as I always have problems with that particular stain.

I went out and bought some formil bio gel today and I must say I've done my whites with it today instead of useing a powder bottom of socks have come up White no stains left behind I'm really impressed all for £2.39 ! The smell of the liquid to me smells vintage and how a laundry detergent should smell :-)

Nice !

I would say definitely Reckitt Benckiser!
The botle is the same as the Woolite Gel in some Countries.

Very interesting! We do not have this version of Formil

I like the expiration date on the bottle. Seems to be a rare sight on detergents apart from some chlorine based cleansers.
Guess it targets mainly enzyme stability and the rest of the product will be OK for a little longer.
Would make a lot of sense with dishwasher tabs, too.

Detergent Use

Mark,

I hope that this does not seem like a silly question, but why is using the detergent dispenser on the machine discouraged?

This is something that some of us do not see or think about, as just about all of the detergent products in the US specifically advise using the additive tray or well on the washing machine.

A couple of reasons

- Because it's a gel rather than a liquid, it is more 'solid' and the small amount of water taken into the machine won't be sufficient to flush it through

- the amount that does get flushed from the drawer is likely to be is 'globs' with may get stuck and in the tube from the drawer to the outer drum or,  in case of a Bosch, the fill flume leading to detergent in the rinse

- by using the lid as a dosing device, people measure properly therefore getting the best product usage

- by inserting the lid into the drum, all the gel is dispensed
