I was just wondering the following: Who on this forum leaves the lids of their washers and dryers open or closed? and Why?

Hmmm ....

FL washer door left open so that seal isn't compressed.
Dryer door closed ... but maybe it shoud be open too so that seal isn't compressed. I don't have the room to do that though as the units are installed in a small area with folding doors.

One open and one closed.

Well, I leave my washer door open because it's a front loader to keep odors down. The dryer, I keep closed, can't keep it open because of the light bulb in it.

Front Loader ajar, dispenser out and dry.
Top loader open for a few hours.
Dryer closed.
Why? I am weird like that.....oh, and the owners manual told me to....
I do find it cuts down on smells.
Let is all hang out I say!

LOL, I had one landlady at one time who said the paint was peeling off the ceiling in the tiny back landing where I kept the belt drive Whirlpool... because I was leaving the lid on the washer open when it wasn't in use. I was flabbergasted. A friend who ran a roofing business took one look and said all the roofing on the property was in dire need of replacement. She flatly denied this when I told her. I asked her how long ago the roofing was replaced. She couldn't remember... she'd owned the property for 25 years... lol...

I finally bought a house and moved out... later found out that the drug addict she hired to paint the place finally wound up falling through the roof of the attached garage... it had rotted through... I had to chuckle a bit about that... and apparently he wasn't hurt... although he probably deserved it for breaking into my area to plug in his heat gun and steal the electricity I was paying for... and stealing my garden tools from the backyard... etc...

Anyway, I leave the door on my Neptune closed when it's not in use and it's never had a mold/odor problem.

Neptune front loader. I keep the doors to the washer and dryer closed. I used to have an odor/mold problem and kept the washer door open but that did not help at all. I switched to powdered detergent (Tide HE) and no more problems. All of my laundry and me smell great! It's also a pain to keep either of them open all the time since they are in a closet in the kitchen and barely fit in there.

Washer lid left open 100% of the time on the Maytag whether in use or not. Kenmore dryer door is usually left ajar so it won't continue to cycle on and off a few times before completely ending its cycle (moisture sensing).

Front Loader - I always leave the door slightly open when not in use. I have never had ANY issues with mold, mildew or any musty odor in the 12 years I've owned them.

Top loader open for a few hours after use.... to allow the excess water (inside or on the lid) to evaporate.

Dryer door closed always (except when adding or removing clothes, of course!). I see absolutely no need or reason to leave the dryer door open.

Washer door is left open.
Dryer door is left open.
And... when I use a dishwasher or our laboratory washer, I leave those doors open too.

Door open (FL).
Before vacations also pull out and wipe dry the detergent drawer; also leave the diswasher clean and ajar

Front Loaders - Door and Drawer open all the time.
Dryers - Both. Sometimes I leave the door open and sometimes closed.
Top Loader - Lid Open all the time.
