Small capacity ones of course have one light bulb but when you get to large capacity and some medium, then there are two…

Though some larger sized (maybe depending on make) still keep one, so according to capacity, how many are really needed?

I'm pretty sure my SxS has 2 in the freezer and 2 in the refer.

Seems adequate to me.

SxS has 3 bulbs in the freezer and 4 in the fridge, I found some LED bulbs that look like the original incandescent and are full brightness when you open the door but now when you stand there with the door open its not warming the fridge from the 4x40w bulbs..

Not put the LED in the freezer yet as I replace them when the bulbs go.

My 2011 Whirlpool top freezer.....

.....has just one BARE lightbulb on the ceiling of the refrigerator section.
No light in the freezer.
This Whirlpool was NOT a "low-end" model either.
Quite a "step down" from my 1987 GE top freezer that had two COVERED lights in the refrigerator section (none in freezer).
I did put an LED bulb in the Whirlpool (which I showed in another post here) and it makes a world of difference in the brightness and quality of the light.

My EU sized fridge freezer has one integrated light source at the top of the fridge part, nothing in the bottom freezer.

Newest trend in fridges (and some ovens actually) aren't "bulbs" but light strips over here.

Basically a number of LED light sources behind a long diffuser that runs the entire length of one or both sides.
If one level is fully loaded, light from above could be obscured.
The lighting from the side along the entire length means that no matter how shelves are loaded, every level is always illuminated.

I went through all my fridges and freezers a couple years ago, and replaced the incandescent bulbs with LED versions. I haven't noticed any reduced brightness.

I would imagine that mfgs are equipping their fridges and freezers with LED bulbs, so as to help with the estimated energy usage.

I do have a couple of mini-fridges sitting around unused. I'll have to check and see what kind of bulbs they have.
