hey guys. Well after months of having no dryer it began to drive me mad with two small babies. My hotpoint ctd00p keeps cuttin out and trippin the house electrics. So while figuring out what that could be i saw this cute white knight compact on offer in asda. It's only a uni direction but drys quickly. It has the 90's styling with chunky dial and rocker switch. I quite like it. Thought i'd share it with you all. Darren

Nice to see someone else with a White Knight compact :-) Have to say for the money you cant really go wrong with these, you can fit a fair bit in too, I only find that you cant really do big loads of jeans in them because they get twisted and crease badly..... but hey I guess it wouldnt be a compact dryer if it could take big loads like that :-)!

Bertrum: I find it amazing that philips designed such a great design that has been kept for so long so many years after they stopped making white goods.

Hey rich! So far im exceptionally happy with it! it drys very well and very quick! Its only a uni-direction which i wasnt too sure about at first but tangling hasn't really been a problem.

Like the others have said Darren, you couldve done alot worse. They seem like the best make out there without spending a fortune. We had a little Hotpoint compact (17221 Super Dryer) a long time ago & i wanted Mum to get a White Knight as they were one of the few compacts that had perspex doors - you couldn't see into our Hotpoint one!

Glad to hear the Hotpoint condensor is poorly - take it to a scrap yard. Mwahaha, me evil :P

Bosch Washing Machines

Hi Guys.

Just been talking to someone at Comet about Bosch washing machines. She informed me that all components are made in different countries for Bosch & Siemens then the machines is assembled in Poland.

So in other words Bosch not German now?

Anyone know anymore info.

I'm not sure where Bosch models are made now as they don't state anywhere - not even on the rating plate on the back like they used to. However Siemens still label their products as Made in Germany directly on the control panel, so looks like if you want German BSH products Siemens is the place to go.

I was so gob smacked when I was told Bosch washers are made in Poland.

You are right, there is nothing said on the machines to tell you where they are made.

Bet you Robert Bosch is now turning in his grave, lol.

Welllll.....

....lower end Bosch washers for our market are made in Thailand. Around 6yrs ago Hitachi started to assemble them for Bosch and also rebadge them too....

...initially, so I have been told, they were made from predominantly German/European parts...but I have no idea now...
 
I was lead to believe that lower end Bosch models (like the Classixx range) was made outside Germany. It was a company in Spain that i heard, but the Poles seem to be 'experts' at making everything else so i guess appliances could be on that list too.

I thought the higher end Logixx & Exxcel were still made in Germany but maybe that's changed too.

Unless you pay near Miele money for one (which knowone in their right mind surely would) then theyre certainly not all their cracked up to be from personal experience.
 
Bosch Washing Machines.

Hi Liam.

I also thought all Bosch machines where made in Germany. I was shocked to be told my Comet they are made in Poland, but using German parts.

Surely this can,t be right. I would expect the more expensive Bosch would be German made.

My Mum & Dad got Miele products, and she is always washing and her machine has never broken down.

Lets hope Miele dont change and still remain high quality machines.

The Bosch dishwasher we bought at Christmas still has Made in Germany on the compliance tag.

I've never bothered to look at the Washers as they seem no different to the Electrolux ones in quality and feel.
 
As a general rule of thumb, if BSH dishwashers have the plastic tub base they are made in Spain, whereas the ones with a full stainless steel interior are still the genuine German product.

It might be the dishwashers where i got the Spain thing from, thinking about it.

My Gran had a Classixx dishwasher and that dealt with being used for 2 washes a week for just two years before it started tripping the house electrics & was diagnosed as having a fault with the PCB.

Personally i think it was probably a leak from the tub rather than a PCB fault, but it got scrapped anyway as we were all so disappointed at its poor life span.

I've seen issues with a Classixx dryer on here some time ago too and there's nothing to suggest the washing machines are any better.

Personally if i want long life i'd just buy a Miele & if i couldnt afford that, get an Electrolux Group product, probably Zanussi as AEG are more money but little better in quality.
 
I disagree, despite your personal experiences, those in the domestic appliance repair trade in the UK rate BSH appliances highly.
Certainly better quality than Lux group, Indesit, Whirlpool etc. . .
 
I've heard similar praise from an engineer who came to look at our Electrolux washer in 2007 when it died & im happy to admit that engineers will have alot more technical & generally more thorough knowledge regarding the ins & outs of machines than i do.

Im just not a big fan & don't think Bosch stuff, particularly lower end, is worth the money.

I'd have no hesitation in saying theyre better than Indesit & Whirlpool, but id still pick an Electrolux Group product over a Bosch as things stand at the moment.

It seems to me Bosch are going down hill. When I had my flat I had a Bosch dishwasher. After 5 months it made a high pitched noise on the wash. Engineer came out to fix it and told me I was not putting enough powder in. So he left without doing anything to machine. I tried putting more powder in, and noise was still there. I called Bosch again, and engineer replaced the pump. It lasted until another year, then started making high pitch noise again. I ended up getting rid of Bosch dishwasher and buying a hotpoint one. The hotpoint one was quite good and silent. When I moved I had no room for my dishwasher so had to sell it.

I remember seeing on here someone with bosch washing machines in his collection, all of them dead, and some models quite recent.

I would not buy another bosch machine.

Mixed Response

Seems like a very mixed response to Bosch.

I'd probably think abit more of them if they were priced abit differently.

It just seems that when i've compared prices, the cheap ones come out around the same price or slightly more than Zanussi and don't seem much (if any) better for quality. And the higher specced models, which may or may not be made in Germany seem to last better but can come close to the lower end of Miele in terms of price.

Id therefore guess that if the average buyer was after quality they'd just pay an extra few quid and go for Miele and if theyre after a cheap machine then Bosch may not be cheap enough.

To me it seems it's only potential buyers are mid-range buyers who are abit badge-snobby & who think Bosch always means German.
