When we first looked at our house in 1998 they had just ripped out the gold carpeting and were going to replace it with a neutral color. The wood flooring had that old varnish that darkens with time, and they really looked rough. I convinced my wife that we should have them refinished instead. We had a local refinisher come in and do the living room, dining room, 2 bedrooms, and the small hallway. The cost was only slightly more than carpeting, and we've received many compliments over the years. The flooring is maple. A nice coat of polyurethane was applied in 1998, and it still looks great 15yrs later. They are so easy to keep clean, and we only have area rugs.
