Been sorta M.I.A.! But...

That IS right up my alley. In fact, I found one of these Superba 42's today locally today for $300. The pic in this thread looks SO much like my Jenn-Air...but I may do the change to the built in Superba model. Anyone know a good source for the black acrylic? The KA I found today is done in pale, smooth birch....

KA Built-In Refrigerators

Are among the best BIRs out there in my Expert Opinion , UNLESS it is one of the first roughly two years production [ 1990-1-2 ] these orignal models had a Japanese rotary compressor that failed quickly and WP replaced them with a regular compressor, but many of these orignal refs continued to have problems with the sealed system because of contamination in the sealed refrigeration caused by the orignal compressors failure.

Forget any fascination with modern appliances (including those F&P ones I love).

This looks like the one to top them all.

The Jet-Black is damn attractive. I'd love to see the kitchen this could have come from!

Black Plexiglass Panels

Were one of several optional panel kits from KA for their refs, we just recycled this same ref last year from one of our customers.  They are very built refs, whenever anyone says that things are not as well built as they used to be when talking about new refs I tell them to put their money where their mouth is and buy a KA built-in, they are amazingly heavily built.

Two months ago I helped install 10 36" wide bottom freezer models in an office building in northern Va. I was involved because they wanted the ice-makers removed from all the freezers because each of the 5 kitchens had a separate Ice Machine and the builder did not want an IM in the freezer as well.

Allen and Twintubdexter - you guys live in the right areas for some of the best deals. Look around on CL for similar priced KA refrigerators and the prices are always higher. Ah, disposable income.

KA Built-In Refrigerators

The Black one is 36" wide the white one is 42" wide, I work on and sell dozens of these every year.

You are correct Phil this type of ref goes cheap in affluent areas of the country, used Sub-Zeros, KAs, GE Monograms, etc can all be had for a song, when you consider everything [ including much higher incomes ] and are very clever it is really much better to live in an area like the Washington area.

I misunderstood you combo52..

i thought you were refering to the black one when you mentioned a 48" model.
The doors open pic shows the white is certainly bigger than the black.

I wonder if part of why they sell so low is that the people who have room for one of these probably are the kind who only buy new appliances, so there isn't much of a market.

KA Built-In Refrigerators

Hi SBJ, I think you are correct when you suggest that most people buying such an expensive ref are generally looking for new not used.

This same thing in true with  built-in wall-ovens and cook-tops, but if you are clever you can get some great appliance bargains.

Black is beautiful...

Here is the counter-depth Jenn-Air I put into my kitchen about a year ago. It was one of the better finds I've ever made. Got it for $50 in Scottsdale from an elderly couple who only live here a few months each year. IMMACULATE in and out. Cheap because they said "It seems to run way too long and we're afraid of it". Took it home in a heartbeat, put in a new compressor condenser fan ($9 total including shipping! NIB unit from ebay). It works flawlessly. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this thing. Only change I'd make would be having front mounted temp controls vs. everything hiding on the back of the case.
