These are very interesting, I wondered if the Hooover manuals (top loading) are at all similar to the Hoover/Blackstone machines made here in the early 70's.

I also thought the Email/Westinghouse machines were cool too - when did that major design change happen for them? One book appears to be a 70's Westinghouse and another was completely different.

The earlier Westinghouse is the US design, manufactured in Aus.
The later ones are smaller Japanese machines rebadged as Westinghouse. (Probably Hitachi or Sanyo manufacture)

The Hoover 500 appears the same as the Blackstone/Hoover in the USA.

The Hoover 600 in the manual is a slightly revised version of the same machine - plastic control panel instead of aluminium,and added a pressure-switch-operated brake to give a neutral drain till the tub is almost empty. ( Neutral drain is mechanically controlled by its own pressure switch, not by the timer - the only machine on which I have seen such a gadget.)Otherwise the same.

Hoover 700 - plastic outer tub, electric pump, timer gives a neutral drain increment, deleted lint filter.

Hoover 800 - plastic lid and top panel, stainless steel basket, short agitator shaft, cheaper timer.

Hoover 900 - minor cosmetic changes. Last of the Blackstone derived series though almost every component has been changed in some way from the original design.

Timeframes

Hi Chris,

What are the time frames for the original series? Did the 900 series finish up about 88 or 89? Or was it earlier?

Also, was the 600 the last series with recirulation? These hoovers had the filter at the back of top of the washbowl? If that makes any sense?

Yes the 600 series was the last with recirculating and a filter.
