Nice! The Westinghouse Frost-Free with an electric door opener is something really cool! 

 

 Frigidaire marketed a similar electric door opener many years later (starting in 1966) but we didn't get it in Canada. Instead, we got a very similar fridge with no door handles and two foot pedals to open each door!

 

The Frigidaire range and fridge in the ad are from 1965.

We had a W'house electric door. Indeed it wouldn't open if the power went out, or if it was out of adjustment, or the plastic plunger on the pad broke, or...

The prop guys on the commercial neglected to plug it in.

Actually it did have a fail safe if you pressed the pad and pried the door at the same time but obviously Betty Furness' substitute didn't know that. Doubt Betty did either.

Isn't that WH range like Lucy's? I caught a couple of minutes of the episode where some reporter is interviewing the Ricardo's and noticed that some of the surface unit switches were turned out of the "OFF" position, but there were no lights in the lenses so the range must not have been connected to power.

Also, on a episode of Bewitched this past week, Sam had the full-width fluorescent light on in her Flair for part of an episode and then, later, it was off like I remember it most of the time.

Maybe I'm a minority, who appreciates the photos and links together.

Since I found aw.org, year and half ago, I've learned alot via text, but the photos are so integral to what makes aw.org a unique resource.

But I found aw.org to be especially interesting and helpful (and fun) because images are there to retrieve, compare and put into context with the postings. I appreciate all the people here with their interests, skills and knowledge, but w/o the photos, it's like a cookbook, without illustrations or worse, a car brochure without photos. Just sayin'.
