Looking for a Bendix autowasher deluxe

Hi can anybody help with finding a bendix autowasher deluxe in good condition. As pictured. Can anybody tell me the max spin speed, sort of hoping it to be around 1000rpm.

Hello, looks like Bendix 7147 B in which case it's spin speed will be 800 from what I remember!

might have been 1000, there was a 7125 which was 500 7142 which was 800 but cant remember if 7147 was 800 or 1000 sorry!

Alasdair - Thanks for the link, have been looking for that. So great to find.

Matthew - Alas these are soooo rare! And if one does come up there will be a long queue and I imagine a very high price tag. I remember someone asking about a purple door Liberator and they are ultra rare and a real collectors piece.

Good luck if you can find one but I wouldn't get your hopes up. Shame there aren't more vintage machines around.

This was a great machine! I knew two people that had this model.It was VERY quiet when spinning! Both machines suffered from rust on the bottom with age though.

Memories!

Gosh, this thread and reading through that user manual had brought memories flooding back of my Mum's first automatic washer, which was a Bendix but a very basic model with just one dial - no buttons or switches, just one dial. Spin speeds were all preprogrammed; 800 or 500. Even on latter machines she still referred to the old Bendix programmes despite the fact that they were all different letters. She had the machine for several years before 'upgrading' to a Hoover Electron 800. Not sure what the upgrade brought her apart from a few buttons, which she never used!! I would love to find an old Bendix - they were very quiet machines.

Did Philco/Bendix become part part of the same company the is Servis today?

I ask, because we got bendix washers in Oz until recently but they never seem to be particularly reliable.....mind Ariston are deadful

Cos it was made proper.

Also cos it had a bloody massive induction motor running it as opposed to a whiny little brush motor.

Bendix 7147

Hi guys.

Well my gran had a bendix 7147. It was a fab machine. It had a stainless steel door, massive drum, for machines of that time. From left to right, was heater light, door locked light, full load & economy switch, bio or prewash button, 800 or 400 spin. Then came the programme selector, and even had programme 9, which was a boil wash but had slow spin, then came wash dial, ie, bio wash, pre wash, main wash, rinses, spin. The machine was so silent when in use. On the hot wash programmes the tumble action was vigerous. When the machine came to empty out water on main wash it would take in cold water to shower the clothes, it was bendix way of cooling down the water. The machine was so quiet in action. Also, it had a feature,, if you put the machine on a delicate wash and selected fast spin, the machine would only do a slow spin. I think this was one of the best machines ever made.
