I haven't posted here in awhile but I am here often reading and learning. A few weeks ago we bought a little 1951 cottage in the woods. I have been restoring the floors and undoing some unfortunate 70s "updates" but the yellow flowered paneled wall in the kitchen has grown on me. The 6th picture shows this. I am in the process of painting the cabinets white. I decided it needed some sunny harvest appliances to replace the modern ones, of course. I just installed a 30" GE P7 range today. She cleaned up so nice and is all shiny and full of chrome. Everything seems to work well including the clock, timer, and all of the lights. She baked her first lasagna tonight perfectly. I've been searching the net for the owner's manual. Model number is J349E1HI. I figure she is between 1968, the first year GE made "Harvest" and mid 70s before the extra outlets were discontinued. Mine has 2 extra outlets, one timed, one not. Does anyone know where I can find a manual? Any info about this lovely would be great. Thanks so much. :)

Nice Range!

And you're fortunate that the clock/time still functions.  I believe this function is necessary for the P7 feature to work.

I agree with your estimated date of manufacture; however, as I read the numbers on the Data Plate they do not agree with the information that GE provides in their table of date codes (link provided).  During the 60's GE's serial numbers went wack-o and can be difficult to pin down.  It is possible that the "E" in the Model Number (J349E) indicates 1969.  The 1972 GE catalog contains a footnote that in the second quarter of 1972 the cabinet design and the model numbers for the ranges would begin to transition to a newer design.  This range is the older design, so it's not likely that it was built after 1972.

Watch Ebay for Use and Care Guides.  I doubt that you will find one printed specifically for this range, but more likely it will cover a multitude of models.

1969 sounds about right

Thank you, Lawrence. I saw a nearly identical 30" P7 listed in the Shoppers Square in Chicago labeled by the seller as a 1969 model. It was white. Funny thing is that my very 1st stove in our 1st house was a harvest gold Frigidaire Thrifty 30 that was a hand-me-down from my grandparents house. I hated that color at the time and couldn't wait to pass it on to someone else so I could get a new white stove. I've always loved the pink and turquoise appliances and have a beautiful 1956 Hotpoint Supermatic in my kitchen at home. Love her so much. Never thought I'd find the old harvest gold and avocado appliances attractive again but....here I am. I was also thrilled to find it came with a brand new in the box griddle. Can't wait to make pancakes in the morning. :) I mostly want to know how to set the timed bake, timed outlet, and self cleaning feature. Can I just buy one of the "Use and Care" manuals on ebay now that look about right for the era?
Thanks again for your help. :)

Hotpoint dishwasher

The Hotpoint dishwasher came with the house. I don't know how old it is or how good it is but it must be newer because the black panel is plastic. I will probably be removing it because we have 1200 gallon water tank and need to have water hauled in. No city water or well. I figure a dishwasher would use a lot of water so just plan on doing dishes the old fashioned way by hand. I have a KDS 21 at home in the garage with the switch out panels. I believe one of them is harvest gold. I bought it awhile ago to replace my KDS 16 when it dies but so far haven't needed it. I could bring it up here but the moment I do will be the moment the 16 gives up the ghost. Plus I know those are water hogs anyway. Is the Hotpoint I have any good?

Hotpoint dishwasher

It's a bottom of the line average, to meh dishwasher. GE marketed them under both the GE & Hotpoint brand and were very popular builder grade appliances for starter homes and apartment buildings from the early 1980s through sometime in the 1990s. At some point in the later 1980s they were the subject of a safety recall due to fire hazard due to a component in the heat/cool dry switch. Yours appears to be more of a rocker switch though. The original faulty design was a switch that slid horizontally rather than vertically. To get around just recalling the dishwashers the "fix" was to render the switch such that it didn't have the hot dry option activated, just a no heat dry all the time.

There was a Kenmore version too

I have it as an extra dishwasher in the basement and I call it the KenROAR, as it does.  Mine was from the 90s, it looks like yours and was too new to be involved in the recall.  It works fine but you might want to go outside while it is running.

Nice Harvest Gold GE!

Hi Lisa, so glad to know that our former pink Hotpoint "Beulah" is still cooking with you! We got her from Walt up near Rochester. We really miss having a 40" double oven but am now restoring the '57 canary yellow 40" GE Liberator that we sold when we got Beulah from Walt, then serendipitously got back last year! Enjoy your cute new cabin!

Hi Roger!

"Beulah" is still getting quite the workout every single day. So thankful that you passed her on to us. Here is a picture of her canning with me from a few weeks ago. And another of her holding court in her kitchen. She is getting quite the workout from my canning and cooking my triple sized "covid garden". lol She's a real trooper and a faithful friend.

Very excited to hear about your canary yellow Liberator. Do we get to see pics? My first choice for the cottage would have been a canary yellow 30" but those are like hen's teeth around here. Even finding the Harvest P7 was several months of searching. I've always wanted a P7 after reading so much about them here. "Goldie" seems to be enjoying her new cottage kitchen. She looks and acts like a very low mileage gal.
Looking forward to pics of your yellow stove. :)
