Hi All -

New forum member, trying to help my daughter find a good used/rebuilt/refurbished washer/dryer set in LA... she's new to buying appliances & I live in Denver. She just moved into a recently refurbished rental and can't afford to buy new. If she were here in Denver, I would know exactly where to send her - but I'm having trouble finding good info on reputable appliance repair/resellers in LA. And Craigslist there is pretty scary.

I have lurked here many times over the years and learned a lot... hoping someone from the LA area can chime in on resellers w/ decent reputations.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Nikki

Dear Nikki

I also live in Los Angeles and I had the same question as you.

Unfortunately it seems that people simply don't care.

The only "used" appliance store that I can endorse is related to stoves. It's Called Antique Stove Heaven. There are have two stores, one at Western (coincidently near home) and other at PCH. They restore vintage stoves keeping as much as possible of the original parts and making some safety upgrades.

The final result is more than impressive!

There is a member here Revvinkevin, that lives in Long Beach

He doesn't have a store, but he has a super nice collection and from times to times he sells one or other unit.

All his washers and dryers are pristine. It won't hurt if you contact him using this website email system and asking if he has something to sell now.

Thanks Thomas for your response...

I'll look into those old stoves - I'm a sucker for vintage appliances. We had a 1952 turquoise Manitowoc fridge in our first house in NY. It was gorgeous... big chrome handles, chrome "Manitowoc" in script on the front. Looked like a 57 Chevy. Course, every time the compressor kicked on, all the lights in the house dimmed :)

Ever watch "Restored" on DIY network? A guy named Brett Waterman - restores/remodels vintage homes in So Cal - mostly in the Redlands area. He tries to preserve the vintage look as much as possible - twice I have seen him put in refurbished vintage stoves. Beautiful!
Some day...

Anyway, my daughter also needs someone to assess the space she has & what she can put in there. From the pix she sent me, it looks like the sewer vent was not installed properly. She's going to need to do some homework. If we are successful in finding someone reputable, I'll report back.

Thanks again!

I'm curious and my husband will certainly be curious too. He has a great knowledge about vintage appliances and he was born here in LA. He probably knows much more stores "hidden" in La La Land.

If would be very fun if we could go windowshopping someday. I love going to Antique Stove Heaven.
