Extra large element, RCA estate electric range

There was a griddle that went with this, or you could also use it for a canner or very large pan, it’s common now for electric ranges to have 1 foot wide elements on the new glass top stoves again.

Oh that makes sense! I found an old post with a photo: Photo of griddle

As noted on the tag, this was made by the Estate Stove Co. of Hamilton, OH, during the time they were owned by RCA. This would have been between 1952 and 1955. Whirlpool bought the company from RCA in July, 1955. As part of the agreement, they got the rights to use the RCA trademark on appliances for several years. They closed the factory in 1962.

Unlike the gas burners in similar locations under griddles which reduced the size of the flame when the "Burner with a Brain" throttled back the input under the griddle, the heating pattern did not change with the electric element's heat heat output so the heating pattern remained constant during the cooking operation and the heat supplied to the farther reaches of the griddle did not change.
