First 40 inch GE range with a self cleaning oven
Indeed, this is a 1964 range. I have the same one in Coppertone brown.
This was the only time I ever saw GE put the tempered glass panels on the upper half of the oven doors. It may have been just a smart dress up design it might’ve also been because the doors, particularly the self cleaning oven door got so awfully hot during the clean cycle. The tempered glass may have added some extra insulation.
In my opinion, it was too bad they ever put windows in oven doors let alone self cleaning oven doors. They just waste heat and get dirty and create a lot of problems when they crack and break, etc..
Hope somebody gets this range. It’s a really neat range. The copper tone one I got was spotted in a restore in Pittsburgh by Jerry, I drove my little five speed minivan up to get it. It wasn’t expensive and it’s in beautiful shape.
