Ok....I recently had to replace my much OLDER Royal Chef single wall oven with a few years younger(I think/hope)nice/clean Magic Chef double oven. I can't for the life of me find the model number on this beast,heh. Anybody have an idea? Only clue is the orange sticker on the window of the lower oven which says it's an "Encore Continuous Cleaning Catalytic Oven",etc. Attached is a pic.

Upper oven and broiler work fine(albeit a gas release delay compared to my old Royal Chef one) lower oven pilot lights/burns ok but gas doesn't release. (bad flame switch?)

Also as I've been installing this oven, it has a stove pipe hole in the top with a floating damper. Is it required to install venting pipe? I was thinking of doing this by tying into the range hood pipe about 4' to the right, which goes up through the roof,etc. Would this be double pipe or single? I guess I'll find out when I have to undo the tape that's holding top/bottom sections of the range hood pipe,eh?

Our first house we had in 1973 had Magic Chef gas builtin and it was vented so I would say yes vent.  The vent went straight up and was double wall type and vented out the roof.  Could bake all day an the house did not heat like with others. 
 
This was the oven on Maude. Her oven was the copper-tone color.
Most of the episodes the name Magic Chef was blocked out by black tape.

I also remember this oven being on Maude show also is this gas or electric? She also had the magic chef d & m dishwasher with the red button.

Ok.....I FOUND the model number. It is a 932-5LPX, albeit I can't find anything online about it,heh. Found it by removing the bottom oven door and it was under the the bottom rubber seal. This "seal" was about 12" long and the rubber was around a metal strip that both ends went into holes,etc. Reason I removed the bottom oven door too(funny) was because I was also replacing the interior light socket at the back wall and couldn't get "in" far enough or comfortably enough with the door open to reach the wire leads to attach,heh. Learned a great lesson too on how to put these doors back on. Have to take a 9mm open end wrench and turn the spring loaded square axle a couple times to creat tension. There's a metal slider button bottom middle that when pushed seems to hold the tension so you can put the door back on into the standing slotted brackets,etc.

Now about the venting of this thing. I was thinking about maybe tying into the range hood vent pipe a few feet away? I haven't taken the range hood pipe apart yet so don't know if it's a "double pipe" or not,etc. I'm trying to avoid doing a straight pipe upwards through the ceiling and roof cutting a hole in the roof?
 
Yes Peter....this is a gas oven. I have the gas hooked up, and the electric plugged into the wall. Albeit I had to move the outlet UP about a foot to keep the back of the oven from squishing the power cord and it's head against the back wall,etc. :)

Usually with these gas "double" ovens, there were two cavities and two doors, but the lower one was the broiler; it was the same arrangement as on a vintage gas stove.

 

Could we get some shots of the interiors? That would tell us a lot.
 
Ken, there are two separate therjmostat knobs--one for each oven as well as a button on the control panel to control the interior oven light for each cavity. Will be interesting to see if the lower oven has a broiler also or if it bakes only.
 
Ok...yep this is definitely a double oven. I took a couple more shots showing the interior. This one with the racks is the upper oven and it's also showing the broiler at the top. My old single oven of course had the pull out drawer for the broiler at the bottom,etc.

Here's the pic of the lower oven with the heating plate removed to keep an eye on the pilot. This one the gas doesn't come on I think due to maybe a faulty flame switch? WEll...at least the light works as I replaced the socket and put a bulb in,heh.

Here's the pic of the top showing the vent pipe opening with its damper. It's definitely a 4 inch and I'm thinking have to go with a double walled pipe. I'd noticed testing the on/off gas function of the upper oven the brown metal lip of the opening does get pretty hot,etc. I drilled a finger sized hole directly above this using a 2 foot section of double walled pipe I'd bought as a guide. Looks like there's a 1x2 rib joist right above so now looking like I'll have to elbow over to avoid it,etc.

Also the push button light switch on the front turns the lights on in both ovens, so no independent light switch for each oven. There is however the independent temp on/off knobs for each oven tho.

In addition I had to move the outlet upwards about a foot to keep the power cord from getting squished by the back of the oven,etc. Used the existing box as a junction box, which plate I had to spray paint brown as HD only had em in white,etc.

I never knew there was such a thing as a gas double oven either,heh. This one is certainly way cleaner than my original 1972 Royal Chef one. Again after I get the vent pipe thing figured out next is the flame switch on the lower oven. Hard to tell where the metal tubing/wire ends up at,etc. The other flame switches are easy to see from the back and are removable from the front, but again I can't see where the lower oven's actual switch is attached,etc.
