Does anyone have any experience with these? The door we use all the time would require a custom-made screen door, and would have to open the wrong way, so we've been thinking....

I don't like that they follow the trend other buy-by-mail offers have used: buy one and get another free, just pay separate shipping and handling. In this case, the Magic Screen is $19.95 and p&h is $7.95. If you go to order (I had to check it out) you don't have an option to order just the one unit! You're asked how many BOGO Free sets you'd like to order, with an additional $7.95 shipping for the 2nd set!

Now, if they DO work, we'd buy the BOGO set since we could use the other one on the door outside the upstairs kitchen. Any experience with them??

Here is a review of the product from Amazon.com. Watch out!

"I ordered this product on-line last Sunday. Since I only had use for one screen curtain, I tried to not get the "1 free" because it had a $7.95 shipping fee so it wasn't really free. Not only could I NOT get only one, but by the end screen of the order it had me down for 2 sets of buy one/get one free so I now had a $39.90 bill for 4 curtains plus $31.80 in shipping for a total of $71.70! So much for $19.99! I couldn't cancel the order on the website (I had hoped for a "confirm" button- doesn't exist), and the customer service # was "not open on Sundays" so I tried calling Monday am 10:30, and was told "sorry, too late, it's already been processed - you can't cancel the order". The service representative was unresponsive to my dilemma and said my only recourse was to refuse delivery of the package. Of course not only could she tell me who the shipping company was initially (only after I pressed her did she find out it was FedEx) but I work so how was I going to refuse delivery if they leave it on my doorstep? I discourage everyone from ordering this product online!!! "

We ordered a set of those things you put in your sagging chairs for $14.95. We were told we'd get a second set for free. We ordered by phone. A fast talking computer handled the call. Product after product was thrown at us for at least 10 minutes while we waited to actually order the product. Pouches for the side of your chair that will hold the remote control, easy sliders to move big furniture around, bean bag chairs, etc. We finally just ordered the two sets that SHOULD have come to about $18.00 with shipping.

What did we get? The two sets of strips for the chair and a $78.00 bill! It seemed that they hit us with a $48.00 shipping and handling fee. What a rip off!
We called the credit card company to tell them about this and to start a disputed claim. They sent us a letter two weeks saying that we ordered the product and received it. End of story. They said that they are not responsible for the total price and to take it up with the vendor.

Chuck this is the place to go with.  They are a relia le company and good on returns.

If using them and yu don't want to be flooded with e-mails set up an account other than your usual to use for ordering.  That way you ovly visit it when needed and can delete all the e-mails.  Either yahoo or hotmail is good for that.

looked at their website and they won't give a total sum until you've entered your credit card number, at which point it's probably too late to cancel the order.

That's exactly how the place we ordered the Furniture Fix operated. In fact instead of telling us what our total was the computer just said "Your order is complete. Goodbye." I'd order from Harriet Carter.

And also watch out for those "Free Trial" scams. Karen got caught in one last year.
She tried the Hydroxiline product. They said all you needed to pay was $8.00 shipping charge to receive your free trial. Ten days later our credit card was hit for $148.00 and then three days later another $148.00. Then when we tried to call the company all we would get was a busy signal. Obviously other people were upset too. So we quickly shipped the product back and told the credit card company we never received the product and that we were being billed. Later we were notified that the charges were removed by the credit card bank. The scam company didn't ship with a tracking number so we could do this. If we had told the bank we had the product they would have told us the same as they did with Furniture Fix.

After there two close calls, I said never again are we going to order through those stupid infomercials or similar. If the product is that good, surely some store will carry it. We'll buy it then.

"Gypsy retailing" is rampant. Try getting an answer about ANYthing from Dell computer, or holding them to what they told you on the phone after 3 hours on hold.

I run a site that documents their shenanigans and after 6 years it just keeps getting worse. And that's a 'major national (international) brand'. The only 2 things that work for dealing with Dell are 1) credit card chargebacks and 2) appeals to state attorney general where they have lost business-practice lawsuits in 37 states.

My screenname here is Rocke_T_Sinetist.

Citibank credit cards have a virtual card number feature that would prevent the free-trial scam Allen described in Post 556389. Log in to your account at Citibank, generate a one-time use "fake" card number that maps to your real account in their system, and a specific $-amount limit can also be set. The virtual number expires upon use, cannot be used again.

Any online shopping process that does not clarify the shipping card before transaction commitment, I won't finish the purchase.

I was also wondering about those Magic Mesh screens for our sliding patio doors because little Pip wrecked the sliding screen part when he was a pup and he still scratches to get in.. but I'm going to wait because just about every single one of these TV offers always end up in regular stores within 6-12 months for the same price and NO SHIPPING.
Don't rush.. wait.

I have found that CVS or Rite Aids and Walgreens all have an isle or 2 of everything and more that you see "only available on tv". No shipping and you can actually look at it in hand. Something that i did want and waited for and bought at rite aid were the "high definition sun glasses". Hey for 10.00 best pair of cheap sunglasses i have every had. Different parts of the country have different ads for stuff and you would be amazed walking that isle what kind of stuff it out there.

Thanks, Troy, for the review of the actual product.

And, I had forgotten about Harriet Carter, or even Walter Drake- I'd ordered from each of them years ago.

IIRC, these have been around a couple of years, and I haven't seen them in the stores' "As Seen On TV" sections yet. But since we don't really need them again until spring, I'll wait and see!

Chuck

I haven't seen a "As Seen On TV" store in a mall in years. I remember the chain, I think I even went into one once. They charged the same amount for the items as they did on TV.

The stores are still around, predominantly on the east coast & Florida and the west coast with a handful of stores in the midwest.
