Couldn't find the post that Louis did on his installation of ht emagnetic water softener but did purchased one myself. Received it yesterady and plan on installing today. We have medium hard water that does leave lots of spots on fistures and we have that dry feel to skin after bathing.

Louis how is your working? I'll keep posting as to how it does here. Purchased mine from the link below. For the money spent nothing lost if doesn't work I think.

Very interesting!! Thanks for posting the link. Please keep us posted as to how well you feel it works. Terry

I think that the way magnetic water softeners work is they actually soften the users brain. It's more or less one's faith in the device that makes it work right? I may be wrong, correct me if I'm off base here. I thought that those things were a scam of sorts?

LOL! Marty, my brain is still working. I bought one of these because some hardware store overhere had them on sale. I was always very sceptical about these things.

Does it work? Yes and no. It is supposed to change the structure of the calcium in the water so that the molecules don't settle on something. I noticed that the water indeed feels a little softer and is more friendly to my skin. I also noticed that I need less detergent so there must be something happening.

What it doesn't work for is the spots on fixtures. A magnetic softener doesn't remove the calcium from the water, so when the water evaporates, the calcium is left behind just as when the water is not treated.

Since I live in a rental appartment, I can't install a regular water softener, and even if I could I wouldn't because I don't like the extra salt in the drinking water. Although our water is medium hard, the taste is absolutely wonderful.

Would I buy it again? I think so, because it saves me some money. I don't think the savings are dramatically and I wouldn't recommend it to others just for that reason, depending on the price ofcourse.

About 15 years ago there was a similar-looking device for cars and trucks that was supposed to increase fuel mileage by changing the molecular structure of the fuel (gas or diesel). My boss had some guy come and install it on one of our trucks to demonstrate it.
They couldn't figure out why I wouldn't stop laughing.
