Make your own Oxygen Bleach?

I was looking for more info on oxygen bleach, I HATE OxiClean, usually buy Clorox version, but now it seems to be loaded with sodium carbonate -- don't recall that on older tubs I've had, but they are long gone.

 

Anyway came across a site that indicates you can make a liquid version with water, baking soda and peroxide.  They suggest just varying the amounts if you want to scrub a deck or such.  Anyone try this?  I recall buying a pure sodium percarbonate powder in the past, it was pricey, but have a very hard if not impossible finding it now locally. 

 

I'm sure Laundress will fill us in if the sodium carbonate is really necessary in the mix- is that not just washing soda?

 

 

Edit: just looked at the container that states "pure oxygen bleach" and it has sodium bicarbonate in the mix.  Perhaps there is no "pure" oxygen bleach out there...

Percarbonate is a Carbonate based product, it's obtained by spraying it with peroxide, Hence the name PER for peroxide and Carbonate for carbonate... it becomes percarbonate after this process of super-saturation.....so....whatever oxy powder made of percarbonate you buy will have a sort of carbonate, may it be both baking soda or washing soda.
It all relies on the quality of the process in which it was made...let's call it more pure or less pure.
Perborate is quite different matter and compound, unlike percarbonate the perborate is not simply an adduct with hydrogen peroxide, but is obtained by reaction of disodium tetraborate pentahydrate, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hydroxide.
Keep in mind perborate requires slightly higher temoeratures to work than percarbonate (this when additioned with TAED activators) otherwise it will work only at 140F or above.

Pure "oxi bleach" do exist and it is measured in volumes, so peroxide.
That mixture of the recipe is a slightly alkaline oxigen bleach solution, like mixing your oxiclean to water, actually being oxy clean made with mostly washing soda that one result less alkaline being made with baking soda.
