This time of year, this is a dessert we like to make. I had a panettone left over from the holidays, which was great to use in this recipe since it contained raisins and orange peel. We made the custard using some leftover holiday egg nog and then topped it with a sweet whiskey sauce. It was great for dessert and even better for breakfast the next morning :-) Baked it in the trusty Westinghouse roaster oven that so many of us love using!

The summer between high school and college, I worked at our local hospital and biscuits were baked every day. Several times a week the leftover biscuits were made into bread pudding and offered on the steam table at lunch. It was delicious.

Classy, Kevin! That's the only way Rich has made it in years! Good with almost any sweet bread, but if you're using a good cinnamon-raisin bread, cut it with a little something else lest it be too cinnamony!

My great-grandmother used to make a steamed pudding with a hard sauce every Christmas. I made it years ago and haven't in a while. It steams in cheesecloth for like 3 hours!

This looks great!!

I have 2 good bread pudding recipes, one uses KRISPY Kreme doughnuts as its base...YUMMMM, The other one uses whole wheat hoagie rolls, but it is really good and rich...10 eggs and sweetened condensed milk!!!!I LOVE bp SO THIS ONE I WILL TRY.

I've got a huge bag of cubed 'egg nog cake' that mom attempted to make and no one ate... I cubed it up and figured I'd save it for some kind of bread pudding...

Instead of using egg nog, could I use heavy cream and add chocolate chunks? Do you think the cake would turn to mush? Should I just throw it away?

Also, Grandma was wanting to give me her old westinghouse roaster, she bought a new one.. The thing still works. I told her to wait till I find a way to use it for more than baked beans. I think you just gave me my reason for taking it. My Rachel ray pans will work lovely in here.

Joshua - you can try a small batch with your egg nog cake and see how it comes out. Cake is usually more delicate than bread, so it might not hold up as well to the liquid. Since you have the egg nog flavor in the cake, you could use heavy cream, half & half or whole milk. And yes - chocolate chunks can't hurt!! ;-)

You will find many uses for your grandma's Westinghouse roaster oven! It will be great for making casseroles and cakes - especially those in a 9x9 or 9x13. It's like having an extra oven around...they are great appliances!
