Finding nothing of interest to watch on the telly tonight, I popped in How to Marry a Millionaire and enjoyed watching it again. Although Marilyn Monroe is quite good, not to mention Lauren Bacall, I think Betty Grable runs away with the movie with her delightful comedic performance.

Nevertheless, since we have been discussing Joan Crawford in the Mildred Pierce thread, I thought I would open a thread about Marilyn Monroe movies. Do you have any favorites? What are they?

I guess Bus Stop is often considered Marilyn’s finest hour, and I do like it, but I think my favorite might be Clash by Night. Still relatively unknown at the time, Marilyn had a gritty, naturalistic role in this movie, which was a type she never really had the opportunity to do again, and I think she did it very well. Her acting style here was much more realistic than what she adopted or was instructed to do in the future.

Whenever I watch this movie, I wish her career had taken a different direction.

Some Like it Hot!

Shows Monroe as the deft comedienne she could be.

Who could hear her sing "I'm Through With Love" and not be heartbroken for her?

Sometimes I wonder what she'd be like as an old lady. She'd be 83 this year....I think she'd have the Jessica Tandy type roles.
