We've been happy sleepers (though not particularly happy fu%%ers LOL) on memory foam in Detroit (we can get a King bed-in-a-box up the stairs, which is the primary limitation with this house).

Out in California, though, we found that we did -not- like the California King size (longer and narrower than the standard King---anyone knows why they build 'em that way...is it like sticks/cubes of butter)?

Anyway, in order to get an eastern King we needed to go with bed-in-a-box again. Did a hybrid mattress this time (thought it might be better with the heat making the solid foam break down somehow)---boy what a mistake.  It feels like the different layers slide around (which kinda makes sense from being packed) in a really uncomfortable way.

The b-i-a-b box springs are fine, except at the foot of Brian's side (where he sits to put on shoes)...the cover pulls up as there is a 6" gap between the rail and the first slat).  May need to get a small piece of masonite to support the cover.

The box spring can be salvaged with some repair work, but I think the mattress is beyond hope. Needed to vent...

Have to say I was somewhat iffy about rolled up mattresses at first.

But I bought my Emma something like 5 years ago and very happy with it.
Got my now ex an IKEA pocket spring mattress and was very happy with that as well.

US bed sizes weird me (and I think many EU folks) out.
Just give me the dang measurements, heck, even in inches.

Why is a "Twin" the typical single people size?
Shouldn't the queen be more picky about comfort than the king - I mean, if we're going with stereotypes, at least stick with them...

But finding a good mattress can be a chore.
I'm lucky I just want something as close to a brick in firmness as possible without actually being the floor.

Just give me an old fashioned hard side water bed and I'll be happy. We have a memory foam mattress I bought off eBay several years ago on our king bed. It came rolled up and vacuum sealed in plastic.
It has held up fairly well. I need to put a pillow topper on it. Sleep number beds are fabulous!

I got a queen bed in a box from Serta a few years ago..I think it's a hybrid.. I also got a metal bed frame from Amazon... and a 1.5 inch gel foam topper from amazon. The bed got set up before the topper so I was sleeping on the bed for 2 nights without the topper before it got here...The REASON I ordered the topper was my fear was the mattress would be too firm (and it was) but the topper made a massive difference. My bed is so comfortable (for me) I put a mattress pad over the topper before I put the sheets on... I was so afraid of the bed frame reading some reviews but no issues in years now..

10,000 years ago, the '70s & '80s I sold furniture & bedding in my family's store in Massachusetts. I always hated mattresses and box springs! You never knew what was inside of them! Things haven't changed all that much today. Sure, companies can create catchy websites, smooth lingo, enticing visuals and convince you that their product is the best. I read a detailed piece years back about all the skullduggery that goes on with online mattress companies & customer reviews.

SO, I decided years ago that I like old fashioned latex foam in my mattress. It's not cheap, but good latex actually doesn't wear out. We're sleeping on a latex mattress that's over 20 years old. We've put a few different toppers on it over the years, but it continues to be okay. (Years back, when memory foam was just getting big I got a topper & promptly gave it away, made me way too hot).
