Sounds interesting, wonder if the folks from Newton Iowa, are working the concessions?

Tale of a Tub

No Dennis, you're not the only one. Here's a little something for ole times sake. Do you remember how the blue and white circular floor surrounding the tub rotated ever so slightly as the agitator went back and forth?

This a page from the Museum's guide book from the late 70's. I don't know when the Maytag exhibit was removed.

Me, too! :-)

Did anyone check out the website that Paul referenced above? A fun interactive timeline but they skipped over the introduction of the Master, Commander, etc.

I would have thought that was an important piece in Maytag history.

See ya there...

I DO remember the "Tale of the Tub" but didn't remember the title.
How fun - thanks for the pix. I remember the humungous agitator but strangely don't remember the periphery stuff. I guess the agitator was so overwhelming when I was 12 that all else just didn't matter.
I'll be there tomorrow afternoon. Kitty has doctor appointment in AM and I get to play in the PM.
Look for a young looking 40's fella 130 lb brown hair covered with scratches and cat hair.

While you are there, ask if anyone knows if/when the tub was removed. I was last there in the early 90's and it was still there.
I wonder how often they have to replace the clothing that was swirling around inside the tub?
If I was not mistaken, there was a little bit of algae sticking to the insides the last time I saw it.

Maytag exhibit

Visited the Maytag exhibit today. Today's showing was the end of its run (closes in Chicago today). Apparently they had a big party at the museum yesterday but the exhibit was open for general attendance provided you signed up.
I have to admit, the Maytag staff there were cordial and were genuinely interested in (and recording your) Maytag moments. They chatted everyone up and really tried getting to know the attendees. Fairly laid-back attitude.
Met Clay the Maytag Repairman. Spoke with him for quite a while. Very personable. That is one big fella! He towered over everyone.
The exhibit itself was spartan. I'm sure you fellas have exhibits in your basements that outshine this. If the show ends up in your backyard-go. If you responded to the newspaper invite and pre-enrolled to attend you were given a gift certificate to Home Depot along with the admittance being covered. The gifts were extraordinarily generous and this pleasantly shocked me.
I couldn't get answers to Whirlcool's questions. Sadly nobody had any info about the Tale Of the TUB exhibit.
They had a raffle for a gold-trimmed Centennial Washer and Dryer. They were stunning. A charming elderly lady won them. She was the perfect winner and seemed pleased as punch to win them. I have a picture but am trying to shrink it.

No other pix

Sorry, I didn't take pix of the little rooms. Actually all you see behind us is all that was there.
There was the:
A) "Farm room", of which you can see most of it.
B) The "1950s" room. All it had was a cabinet and some hanging utensils (some of wrong era). The wringer is behind Maytag Repairman.
C) The 1970's era with basically just life-size pictures of stackables. They didn't have samples (orange and yellow flowered wallpaper.)
They augmented the display with easels holding large, old ads, videos of old commercials and a little sit-down area with coffee and cookies. Not too much more.
The Maytag staff made it fun though as they were all really chatty and interested in their visitors.
