Maytag 641C dryer

Well now that the holidays are over, I once again continued with the dryer. Replaced the motor pulley and converted the dryer to 110-120 so I could see if it would run. It did, but one items that didn't work was the timer. It would not advance. Nor will the bell ring when I advanced it to off. So, need to find a replacement timer. Interesting that the time housing itself is missing the model number. I can't, so far, remove the screw in the front of the dial. It's stuck. Maybe it's there.

I did pull the timer itself. Maybe I can just replace that. [this post was last edited: 1/11/2014-21:05]

Timer Problem

It sounds like you may just need a timer MOTOR, if you could post a picture of just the motor I can see if I have one, a picture of both sides of the timer motor and whether it is a CCW or CW turning motor and the number of teeth on the little gear on the TM would be helpful.

Sure, question. Will the bell ring when you rotate the dial to off or only when the dial moves on its own to off?

The bell will ring when you manually rotate the dial. The dryer has to be on the Wash n' Wear setting for the bell to ring. The contacts that ring the bell are very small in the switch housing and fail quite easily over time. I even bought a NOS timer and the bell contacts didn't engage. I had to disassemble the timer switch and set/align the contact spacing myself. If you like tinkering with mechanical electronics, I suggest you disassemble the switch yourself. Most likely, all you will need to do is some contact cleaning (fine grit sand paper and rubbing alcohol). It can be tedious work though if you need to set the contact spacing as the contact spacing has a small margin for error.

Thank you Bob331. I don't think I had it set on wash and wear. I will try it on that setting and see if it rings. My luck I will have to take apart the timing housing.

Hi Jason, I checked today and a do have a good used timer for this dryer that seems to advance just fine, in fact i have the complete control panel including a working bell if you need anything else, message me if you are interested, John L.

Hey John, Jason, or anyone,

If you find a second door gasket I need one for my de702 also. These rubber parts are difficult to find!

The one thing that I always do is...

...take a fairly thick felt drum seal, and using hi-temp glue, glue it around the outside of the drum lip so that all of the heat from the elements go through the heat holes in the front of the drum. This will also keep anything from falling into the heaters from the inside of the drum. Sorry I didn't mention this earlier, but haven't been on in a while.

Hi Will, I cross referenced and found that this part would work on my 641C. I don't know if this one would fit your dryer. I do have a continuing search on E-bay for the correct part / # . Someday I might be lucky.
