I was so excited to see this set on Craigslist going for short money. The sellers would not hold them as they were part of an estate sale, first come first served. You can bet I was there way ahead of time. The DG712 is what I have been trying to get for many years. I have a perfect LA712 washer and DG512 dryer, a matched set, but I have always wanted the dryer with electronic control. I was a little disappointed when I saw how dirty the set is. The dryer should clean up nicely, but it will never be pristine. There are a few chips on the cabinet. Here are some pics:

I can't imagine putting clothes in anything this dirty. The bleach dispenser was as filthy as the fabric softener dispenser. Yuck!

The dryer drum and exhaust are covered in lint, gunked on with fabric softener goo. Too many house fires are started by this! This is the inside of the lint filter housing. Pardon the leg.

The filter housing is distorted above the sensors. Something tells me this dryer ran very hot due to blocked ductwork. There is about 1/2" of crud in the back exhaust. I couldn't get a clear picture of it.

I'll keep everyone posted on the restoration. I'll take pics as I go. Clean your ducts and mind your softener! :-)

Ahhh, a 712, kind of a dream machine for me. I missed a 712 washer here last week for $75. Oh well, next time. Congrats!!!

Congrats....That is my exact set...in white.

See, good things come to those who wait. Glad you got your dryer with the electronic control.

Wait till you hear the DING for the cycle signal.

The filter is sticking out above the plenum due to lint in the 'tracks' that the filter slides down in. I see that all the time. The old lady never cleaned out her softener dispenser (probably never diluted it either...) in the agitator alright. I've had to BREAK the filter insert once or twice as it was fused into the agitator. Yuck!

BUT... That is a very nice set you have there and with the proper TLC will last you for YEARS! Very nice find!

Beautiful set. I remember how the console shined on the A712s; moreso than 612 or any other. Apparently the old woman loved fabric softener and bleach. Hopefully this will run smooth.

Have a good one,
James

Greg...Bobby has great legs and from what I saw at the gathering at Rich and Chuck's last year and seeing Bobby come out of the pool....lets say Bobby is packing some heat. Now back to our scheduled program....

Bobby -

A dirty machine is part of the fun of having a set that you restore, don't you agree? It's amazing however how many people out there use machines every day (supposedly to CLEAN stuff) that are far nastier than that though. I am occasionally disgusted at how piggy some people can be.

GOOD LUCK with your set, and congrats on finding what you want and going after it with such affirmation! That's very cool.

Congrats on the set. I can't believe someone could use something that dirty. When I replaced the dogs on my ex-friend's Whirlpool, I couldn't believe how dirty the machine was, same with her dryer. My mom would tease me because I kept ours so clean, she would say I was going to wear the paint off just from cleaning.
