I had an a512 washer and a g412 dryer (1986 vintage) that you all helped me fix. But I really wanted the fully featured 712's (water combos, dual speed wash, all electronic drying, light inside the dryer!). So I just put it out there. Well, this almond set (January 1987), in way better shape I might add, popped up on CL a few miles away for $100. I was so excited. I gave the guy $300 so he would deliver, help me move them in, and take the others away along with some other bulky, hard to throw away items. He brought them that night!
I've so far only had to replace the inlet valve and soak the lint filter in vinegar and Dawn overnight. I replaced the dampers on the 512 and need to get way more desperate to want to do that job again (it's not a hard job, just my laundry room is pretty confined). I have the same low whine sound during agitation and spin mentioned in the other a712 thread and it shakes like crazy on spin for a couple of loads anytime after it's been tipped back. Dunno if that's a thing but I found the a512 did the same thing and seemed to sort itself out after a few loads. Gentle speed bypasses the issue entirely for the time being. Oh, and the "chime" on the dryer is a riot! I can hear my neighbors laugh every time it goes off but it beats the heck out of the buzzer.
So I can take this one off the list and what's left? A KitchenAid Kd-14 Superba and a Tappan Microwave Model 56-4565 (with the browning element). Though I think I may have waited too long for those (probably just as well).
