At my school there is a class where you cook and what not. My teacher has a Maytag fabric matic, large capacity heavy duty washer. I had her last year and I peeked inside the washer like everyday. I remember seeing four holes in the agitator for the lint filter. This year it has only three now? Am I crazy? It's the same model? I have no clue what year it is but I would like to know that too. The washer was pulled out in front of the dryer when school started Tuesday. It was put back yesterday in its original spot. Could the agitator been replaced? And does anybody know what year it could be? Again, it's a a212 Maytag heavy duty, fabric matic, large capacity washer.

The class you speak of sounds like what we old geezer boomers used to call Home Economics.

Regarding the washer, if it's a "large" capacity tub, it should have had the three-hole agitator all along, and I don't think the lid would have closed otherwise.  Maytag's "extra large" capacity models have the four-hole agitator because the tubs on those are deeper.  I'm not an expert, but I think a 212 would be a "large" capacity model with the three-hole agitator.

What are the descriptions on the water level settings?  If there isn't an "extra large" setting, that's another indicator that the machine is supposed to have the three-hole agitator.

Maytag Neptune Stack Washer-Dryer

Amtrak has a Maytag Neptune stack unit on the Empire builder. Check it out on the train. The Rooms on the train all share the machines. Except for the Silver Star and Amtrak Silver Meteor.

Thanks a lot RP2813. The washer is for towels, when we cook in that class we use a lot of towels and need to wash them. I will look and see Monday If its a large capacity or a extra large capacity washer.

The a212 was a standard capacity machine (16 gallon fill).  Sometime during the 12 series run (1984-1989) Maytag confused the issue a bit by relabeling their 16 gallon machines as "Large Capacity" and their 19 gallon machines as "Extra Capacity".  Here is the panel of an a212 from the original 1984 service manual.
