As I was looking recently inside the front panel of the machine for leaks, I noticed part of what looked like a third of a felt or rubber ring being pushed out under the snubber thing. The machine is not running any differently, but how critical/difficult is it to repair this part? Thanks!

Hi pturo!
Where exactly is this rubber thing protruding from? Maytags dont have snubbers, just WP and KMs do. If it's under the damper( the found thing that is at the base of the tripod support, sitting on the base) it may be that a damper pad has come unglued. Can you send a pic?

Yikes, Phil.
This may be a damper pad, but to be honest, I have never seen a poly damper pad. I have only replaced the older felt ones. It looks black- I thought the new poly ones in the 08 series were white, but I don't know what the hell else it could be. Is is black from being rubbed by the damper? In any case, the damper will wear away and the base could be damaged as well. I found an A608 in mint condition. It was tossed because the damper pads were totally gone and with each spin the damper and base were grinding away. I can only imagine the horrible noise during the spin. Anyway, it awaits a new damper and pads. The pads in my A612 are dry- it is important to keep them lubed. If you want, I will send you a copy of the service manual pages on how to lube or change the damper and pads. Is the thing loose or is it stuck under the damper?

we had this repair done on our LA511 back in the early 90s. all the felt pads came undone under the damper, causing the machine to litteraly walk across the floor. the Maytag repairman had to take out the whole drum/trans/suspension assembly. glue new felt pads on, lube them up and reassemble.

so far so good. the machien was purchased in 1982, that was its only repair. we still use it daily.
