Hi Folks,

I have a 40+ year old Maytag A606 and I was replacing the tension springs under the motor when I dropped it.

It disconected all the wires and I have no idea, what goes where.

There is black, red, white, yellow, brown & orange wires.
The numbers on the motor are 1 thru 6.

Any help would be appreciated - I'm running out of clean clothes.

Volvoguy,
It is on the front but it's so old and faded, I can't read it.

Goatfarmer,
I cleaned up the wires and see the print, but the small numbers are the same on all 6 wires - Maytag AWG 600V 105C.

That's it. That's the one.

Now I just have to read the thing and hook it up without frying my old Maytag when I plug it in.

#3 looks like it takes red and white.
I think brown goes to #2. or #4. Not sure. That does say brown on your diagram across from #2 - that's one of the few that is clear on what's left of my diagram.
It looks like yellow goes to #1.
I hope I'm reading this right - I'm not an electrician.
Why didn't Maytag color code the other side. Jeeesh. Oh well, that was over 40 years ago - the era just after women could lose their arms in the old wringer washers.
Any electricians out there?

If you look closely, Maytag motors usually had a dab of paint next to the terminal that reflects the wire color that goes to it.

No dab of paint on mine. She was re-built when I got her so it may not be the original motor.
But thanks!

I'm still wrestling with the wiring diagram.

The orange goes to something like a reastat then turns to black and yellow. I'm very confused.
