No Image Available :(

The diagrams on that Sears site all show "NO IMAGE AVAILABLE" on my screen.

Is there another source I could look at?

Thanks once again!

Type in model A806 at Sears site. Different model but share many of the parts. It will at least give you an idea what it is like inside.

Keep the Maytags. They will probably outlast anything made these days. Parts are still readily available, easy to work on,etc.
Like fixerman said, the 806 is pretty much identical inside.A little fancier on the console, and a bleach dispenser are the major differences.Good luck!

Cut away

I've included a cut away spec sheet for the Maytag's, any model (a favorite POD of mine). This is a good reference to see what is going on inside the unit. If you look right below the hindges, you will see the injector assembly. This would leak during the a fill. Also note the water valve, another possible leak zone.

Another common leaky zone is the hose between the pump and the outer tub. Usually it is just really nasty hose clamps, but is usually a good idea to replace the hose as well. Also check the hose/clamp on the drain as well - the hose that runs out the back side of the pump (looking from the front). It also could be leaking from a tub seal as well, or a rusted outer tub.

Pull the front cover off, and look for obvious signs of a real rusty place, or where you see recent dampness. Let us know if you need any help.

10 year old machines

The only 10 year old machines I wuld take a chance on would be something from the Whirlpool/Kenmore family. Otherwise, stick with the Maytags

Agitator removal: Maytag KA606 Washer

I was successful removing the agitator using the "soak for 5 minutes with hot water" method. I have attached a photo showing the underside of the agitator after removal and cleaning. It had one remaining plastic "hook" that looks somewhat like a crochet hook and may be a retainer; three others appear to have been broken off.
The second photo shows the agitator drive shaft. The camera lens was steamed up from the hot water hence the foggy image!! The third photo also shows the drive shaft, taken after the camera lens cleared.
I have ordered new drive belts and hope to install them when arrive in the next few days.
Thanks to all who provided ideas on repair and maintenance of the A606.

Plastic Hook On the Bottom Of A MT Power-Finn Agitator

That plastic hook was left over from the molding process, normally all four should have been removed before the agitator was ever installed in the washer when it was first assembled.

We used to see some crazy things on new MTs and WPs in the 70s, quality control was not anywhere near as good in the 70s as it is now.
