Okay, here's my symptoms. My wife and I love our newly acquired a612, minus the delicate cycle. When we selected delicate cycle with a slow spin, I noticed the machine was barely rinsing our clothes, leaving a good amount of suds behind. Now we followed the detergent direction to the letter, and even used less detergent to see if that would make a difference. I watched the machine during a normal spin cycle(lid up and switch closed), and it spray rinsed just fine. I then put the machine on a short 2 minute cycle on slow spin, and it repeated the spray rinse cycle again just fine. I was perplexed at what was going on, but it was then I decided to try a regular 8 minute delicate cycle with slow rinse.( A cycle that always displays the unruly behavior). The machine spun out for its first drain, but never sprayed one burst of rinse spray. The machine drains and spins great otherwise. Am I correct in thinking this is a faulty timer issue?

That would be my guess as well.
Take the back of the console off, and locate the mix valve wires to the timer.
Do this after you set it on the delicate spin rinse position, then unplug it of course. The guessing game is where that point is though.
Connect an ohm meter multi tester to the timer terminals to the mix valve, or the temp. selector knob, which ever the wires go to first.
Personally, I rarely use delicate, so I'd wait to see of the timer fails altogether. Or, if you've got spin rinse on normal, and perma press, I'd just go get a timer.
My '95 Maytag did not spin at a lower speed on delicate. Perma press also has a cool down pre rinse and pause.

How long is it taking to pump out the wash water?
Perhaps the water level switch has not reset before the spray portion of the spin is over?

This console and control layout is what's on your A612?
Assuming so, the designated Delicate cycle is nothing more than a shorter wash period on the Regular Fabrics cycle. The sprays and rinsing sequence are identical regardless of what wash time is chosen. You can select Gentle-Slow for *any* desired wash time and get a "delicate" cycle on either Regular Fabrics (with or without Automatic Presoak) or Permanent Press.

Thank you for everyone's response. The machine is not consistently spray rinsing during delicate cycle, with slow spin. My a612 console looks identical. The drain is about 18" inches above the back of the machine. She seems to be draining fine. Listening to the responses I still think it's the timer,but I'm also intrigued by the water level pressure switch. Educate me
What do you mean by the "Delicate" Cycle? This machine only has 2 cycles:
1. Regular (no cool down before first spin)
2. Permanent Press (cool down before spin)

The spin spray should start at two minutes into the spin. Time the pump out to see how long it takes. Typically it should pump all the water out in less than 90 seconds. If the tub still has water in it, the spin spray may not happen.

This topic has come up in the past. I raised it and was given the advice - this was back in Yahoo! group's days - to start a rinse on an empty tub.
Spray worked properly, it turned out the belt running the pump was slipping so badly (on a real Maytag, that takes a lot) to drive it.
Come to think of it, timer dogs, silly fuse on some later models and slipping belts have been the cause of nearly all our Maytag problems over the decades.

Okay I timed her drain cycle, and she is well over 90 seconds with the smallest level in the tub (slow spin). There was a small amount of water left after spin cycle(slow drain). I recently put on a new pump and belts, because the other pump was seizing up. (Belt tension is good) I wonder if I have a hose clog. Checking tonight.
Update: The old a612 is pumping out better. I switched out the pump belt. The old belt proved to be better,than the new belt I purchased. She still refuses to spray rinse, so I will try another timer( arriving tomorrow). I will also look into how to test the water level switch (Electronically inclined). Does anyone here have a procedure I can follow for that? Malcolm?

A low/small water level should be long gone by the time the spray should begin. I would continue to look there. Are you sure that both belts are Maytag belts? Or has the drain hose been replaced? Is there a part number on the drain hose? The higher than normal standpipe may also have something to do with it.

Today I took your advice by cutting our vertical drain pipe, so it would be lower. I also removed a redundant amount of drain hose. The timer arrived, and I noticed how it turned much nicer than ours. So I replaced it anyways. The new timer pleased my wife regardless, because of its smoother feel. I decided to keep the old one to repair at a later date. While I had the console off, I removed the hose connected to the water level pressure switch. I blew through it, which preceeded to blow some sludgy bits into the basin. All clear I put the whole thing together and....She runs like a Swiss Watch. I believe you were very accurate in your diagnosis. I understand that it was probably a draining issue. No drain, no spray rinse! As far as the belts go, the replacement was an OEM belt with a Maytag marking on it. When I compared the old belt to the new one, It was indeed thinner than the belt it was going to replace. The old belt is in great shape, even though it was driving a very stubborn pump. So I made the decision to use it. I was pleased that the timer was a, genuine, nos, Maytag replacement. Thank you for all your help. This whole experience has really made me more familiar with this machine. Without you, and a few other members, it wouldn't be possible. I am really glad I joined this forum. Thanks again!
