Can anyone tell me what year(s) the A700 model was produced by Maytag? Also, where did this machine fall in the hierarchy of models? TOL/MOL?? I believe it has a lighted control panel.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A700 -

Hey Bill,

The 700 series machines were, for the most part, Maytag's TOL machines. Lighted glass panel via a manual push button, 2 speeds, 3 water levels, and the ability to control the rinse temperature via the super cool Rinse temp selector on the right hand side of the top panel. These machines also featured the bleach dispenser, and a lint filter. The A700 replaced the 142 in or around 1960, and was replaced by the A702 for the '64 model year (adding the softener dispenser and an automatic bulb starter), and by 1966, the A806 was the top dog.

Of course, for those who lived in the lap of luxury would opt for the Supreme Maytag, an all push button machine - the 160 in 1959/60. It was then called the A900 by 60/61 (??), then the A902 by '64, and replaced by the A906 for 1966. I've included shots of an August, 1962 A700S I picked up last weekend...

Cleaning them is the best part!

This machine took some persuasion to get moving, but seems to be a solid runner for a project. This shot shows the early bleach dispenser, and the machine in a spin.

There is a jem on the ground next to the A700......

Ben ... that's BEAUTIFUL! And ... with a Suds Saver at that!!

Thanks to both you and Mark for posting these photos. I just LOVE Maytag's vintage products.

A700

I have a matching dryer as well. But I'm more interested in getting a restored A700 than I am in selling the dryer. A beautiful machine.

700 Pair In PINK

I was asking about age since I got a lead on a matching pair of these machines. I picked them up last night. Here is a photo of the dryer after I got them off of the truck. I will post a washer photo later today.

Proof God Love Us

Wow, wmlask,
That is an amazing find. Somehow Pink seems to be the primary color of vintage.
The 700 series was my all time favorite and to find a set, that is well preserved is amazing.
The capitol T truth about the Maytags made after 1958, with Helical Drive is that they are a life time machine.
Very easy to service, easier to diagnose and inexpensive to repair. Two screws and your looking at the heart of the machine.
If a person wanted to, they could find faults in the function of Maytag, but the engineering and design is simply above reproach.

Beautfiul Bill!

Can't wait to see the dryer. All the more reason for me to come up for a visit. You are one of those rare individuals that has that unique ability to ferret out these fabulous machines.
