Maytag A806

I have a problem with my Maytag 806 washer. It was my daily driver for a few years without issue. Two years ago I purchased a LG 3500 pair which has been my daily driver since then.

The Maytag has remained hooked up the whole time to both electric and water. It gets used occasionally for some odd delicate loads that I don't trust in the front loader or to spin something out that I have washed by hand. Today I lifted the lid
and the tub was full of water to the top of the fabric softener dispenser. It's been weeks since I've opened the lid so I don't know when whatever is malfunctioning started. I looked around the machine and I cannot see any water on the floor.

Any ideas what is causing this? I am not mechanically inclined but I do know and have used an older Maytag repairman. Assuming I can get the part, I'm sure he can do the repair.

Sounds like a weeping fill valve. Turn off the faucets and spin out the water then see if it refills.

I am betting the water valve could be letting water trickle in when it’s not being used. Had a similar thing happen to my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer with the valve sticking open and letting water trickle in and haven’t had issues with the water valve since I rebuilt it 2 months ago.

You need a new inlet valve, replace it while it is still available.

Thanks for your input. I drained the machine and have left the lid open to see if more water enters. So far the tub is dry but it has only been about 6 hours or so.

I think I will turn off the water after a few days and leave the machine as is. If the trickle is so slow that it took weeks to fill the tub, is there any problem not fixing the water valve? I only use the machine a few times a year for special loads so keeping the water shut off (and what Maytag always recommended) is not a big deal.

Does anyone know the part # for a Maytag water valve? Does anyone know were I can purchase one? I think I'd like to get one and have it on hand in case the problem gets any worse.

Turning the faucets off between uses will of course prevent the seepage ... although it may get progressively worse, seeping/dripping/running enough to interfere with operation of the machine.

As long as you're diligent about turning the faucets off, it will likely run for years like that- I have a Maytag Neptune in the basement (5500) that has a leaky hot water valve, and it's been going for years that way. As long as the faucet is turned off after a cycle, no issues. If someone forgets to turn the faucet off, it will get a a couple inches in the drum overnight. Has never made it out onto the floor to my knowledge.

Take Johns advice and get a new genuine Maytag/FSP valve while they're still available.

There are aftermarket valve that will work but they have short lifespans according to reviewers.

Now I Have the Same Problem!

Ugh, just discovered my 806 is experiencing the same issue with a weeping/leaking fill valve. I typically use it as one of my daily drivers so have been turning off the (cold) water valve after each use. Sounds like the best thing to do is to replace the valve. Any help with linking/finding a replacement would be most helpful. I have no idea of the year make of this model, only the label on the top of the console that states is an 806. It’s interesting that where the usual serial/model number plate should be appears that there never was one in place there (see photo).

Maybe the machine top was replaced at some point (it wouldn't include a model/serial tag).

There isn't a tag on top of the console or back of the machine?

I always when done washing, shut off the faucets. I have seen too much damage from a burst hose and it wont leak into the tub if the water is off.

Just a thought

Check the upper right (if facing the machine) rear of the machine. The older ones had the tag on the back. It would explain the top being replaced and why there does not appear to have ever had a tag attached.
