Maytag Anniversary Washer

100th Year Anniversary Dependable Care. I didn’t know these machines existed. Took screenshots of a Facebook ad. Apparently I don’t know how to copy the link anymore. Looks to be around a 2006 or 2007. Was it the first Maytag direct drive built by whirlpool?

I don't know if these are the Centennial models, but it would make sense if that's the case.

 

As I recall, the console design was a nod to the forever-classic Maytag center dial configuration even though the machine itself was a direct drive abomination produced by a different manufacturer.

corp. The Centenial was a VMV belt driven splutch gearcase version with reversing motor. This may be also.My sister lost our moms late 80's Kenmore DD 80 series in a flood. She got a Maytag top load 3.6 capacity center dial style in Sept. 2013 to replace it. No complaints so far. Just two of them there. I think she said she mainly uses the delicates cycle. Default water level about a third of a tub.

Found the ad.

It's an "old-style" direct-drive, not a VMW.  There are no cycle progress indicator lights. All VMWs are computer-controller, not a mechanical timer, and have cycle lights.

There were many center-timer direct-drive Maytag-branded models produced between the time Whirlpool bought Maytag and the end of direct-drive production.

Water Level:  Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, Super Plus

Temperature:  Cold, *Cool, *Warm, *Hot (*Auto Temp Control)

Thanks for the replies everyone. I knew it was a direct drive model. Just curious if anyone had run across one of these as I have not. I believe this was pre centennial as I think those were introduced around 2008. There were some centennial machines that were direct drive for a short time before the VMW machines were introduced with the centennial designation. Thanks for the help Glenn. The anniversary edition must have been a one year control panel design that included the designation and looked like the 60’s ones. The style and placing of the writing on the centennial machines did not look like this although the center dial concept is still there.

I bought that exact model for my Mom back around 2007 or 2008 maybe.  It's still going strong.  The pump started leaking a few years ago and I replaced that.  Otherwise, it has been a reliable washer.

the gold trim along the bottom was a resemblance of Maytags Sunny Yellow control panel......

would have been cool if they used push buttons instead of rotary knobs.....more closer to the classic Maytag design...or even using labels under the knobs for the selections, and turn the knob to the selected choice...

A story about that washer.

I do agree that that model was introduced around 2008 or whenever Maytag’s 100th anniversary occurred.
During that time, Maytag had a 100th anniversary exhibition at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry. Mitch didn’t want to go but I insisted.
It was a very fun exhibit and I got to meet the Maytag Repairman! Additionally EVERY attendee received (get this) a one-hundred dollar gift certificate to Home Depot! We came home with $200! We used it all on Christmas decorations that year. I would tell people that the house was decorated by Maytag that year.
Anyway, they had a raffle. Truly there were only about 100 people there at the time. An elderly lady won a Maytag Anniversary pair. She was quite happy about winning! It was especially fun since the event was actually quite intimate and everyone had a good chance of winning. A very nice time.

So Maytag celebrated 100 years of its washing machine in October 2007. Maytag’s first washer debuted in 1907. I had been curious about this because I have a 100th year Maytag banner from 1993 that actually hung on the wall in one of the Maytag buildings. I had forgotten though that the company was formed in 1893 manufacturing farm equipment but it wasn’t until 1907 that the first washer was built. Here’s the article corroborating Paul’s reply.

So then, this could have been the first Maytag-branded DD model.

Glenn I believe it was. Although this control panel only stated 100th Year Anniversary Dependable Care, I believe it was the first of the centennial line of Maytags. In 2006 the kitchenaid line was still in production so I think they made the swap over to Maytag being their top of the line with the 100th year celebration. It’s a shame Maytag couldn’t have that milestone themselves as the Maytag company.
