Does anyone know who's design it was that Maytag used for its first Atlantis washer? Bought it in 1999, to replace a 1979 A8xx, think it was. Next to TOL, anyway. Still kicking myself for getting rid of that; it was before I knew any better The Atlantis had a plastic tub and the brake always made a racket. They still had the Dependable Care, or whatever they were calling their own design, and maybe the Proforma, as well. Speaking of the Proforma, who's design was that?

Just trying to get a better feel for the evolution of the Maytag line of that error.

Thanks.

Magic Chef / Norge

I believe the Performa series was a straight rebadge of the Magicchef design. The Atlantis was a refined short stroke version.

Both were solid performers, but had questionable reliability.

Someone with more knowledge can fill in the gaps.

norge

it's a "norgetag"-based on a norge design.I've got a 2000 one stashed in storage-
needs some repairs, belt slips when it tries to spin and as the pump is driven by
the same belt it won't pump out either when the belt slips...just lazily turns with
a tub full of water.I haven't looked at it too close yet,but might have a spring
missing from the motor plate.
