MAYTAG CA900 WASHER RESTORATION

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The lit up coppertone is beautiful, John, and...

The innards all look brand new, and knowing you, they probably are!

How's the 906s coming? In no hurry, was just teasing yesterday in Andy's thread, obviously.

Valve

I couldn't help notice the valve sitting on the baseplate in the pick with the cabinet removed.  Is that the fill valve or a suds diverter?

John - your resto efforts have resulted in a fantastic example of Maytag at their peek. IMO, The few years after Fred Maytag II passed (1962-1965) produced some of the best quality product that came from Newton.

The early non-shaded coppertone with the grey pushbuttons is fantastic (I've always been a sucker for browns).

Noticed it has the swtich on the top cover. Was this a suds model? The only thing that would make this better would be to have a matching CDE750W sitting next to it.

Ben

Could be wrong as the Master is out saving machines,

but in the conversations about our 900's and the multiple machines and control panels in play, the one pictured has a cold water option switch.

Again, I could be totally mistaken, but too excited to keep quiet. John is working from 4 machines, and his is a non-suds and copper; mine is white and gleefully returns the holy suds.

A slow learner, ME--just figured it out.

Reply #2 is a pic of the 906s, undressed. Feeling kinda dumb for not recognizing her. She looks beautiful. Thank you, John. You said you'd have her running this week, and so she is. Glad I "got" it before you call up and laugh at me for not paying closer attention

MAYTAG CA900 RESTORATION

The machine is running well it only had a few minor leaks at a hose clamp or two, the matching CDE750 dryer is next.

Tim the fabric softener dispenser is a centrifugal spin out design like most agitator mounted dispersers. This was MTs first design for a FS dispenser. A few weeks ago I was working on an older customers old WP dryer which was down in an old basement filled with all sorts of junk. And I spotted the old MT box on a shelf above the washer so when I finished the dryer repair I took the FSD and box up stairs and sat down with the customer. She said oh what did you find down there and I showed her the dispenser and asked if I could buy it from her but she insisted that I just take it and then she asked if I had found anything else that I wanted down there. It was NIB and the washer that would have used it was of corse long gone.  Malcolm the white valve assembly you see is the three solonide thermostacic inlet valve, the other white A900S that I am also rebuilding for Michael will have the suds-saver. Yes Ben I too have always a fondness for brown appliances and the gray buttons were a big plus as the white plastic ones always yellow or otherwise discolor. Greg the switch on top was from the CA702 that got scrapped, it was the warm rinse override switch and I thought that I would wire it in on this washer so it could have the more disariable cold rinses. Using it for a light switch is a great idea, but I will hide a lid switch override and light switch on the back of the control panel.  Sorry about the spelling I think my spell check died.

CA900 WASHER UPDATES

Jason and I worked all day yesterday at the warehouse and ran about 5 loads through the CA900. I unclogged the longer of the two hoses on the bleach dispenser reservoir and it flushes properly now. The machine is impressively smooth and quite running and if not loaded to heavily does a good job. The next thing will be finishing the matching CDE750 dryer and the pink PC741 gas dryer, it will be fun to do a drying speed test between the gas and electric HOH dryers, I will have blindfolded boys to do the judging LOL. The washer will differently not become a driver as its really pretty anemic compared to just about any other classic washer we have except maybe an AMP. But the washer and matching dryer will remain hooked up in the museum for people to come and use and enjoy.

Those Wash Great

Hey John,I really like your CA900 I used to have one briefly that came along. When I tested it I found it washed very well even though it had that slower 54 opm agitation.I use Sears Plus, and with that any washer washes great.I wouldnt be afraid to use that as a daily driver whose clothes are that dirty these days anyway?Couldnt help but notice in the picture you have the same bolt down bendix as I have and would love to compare notes on condition and history etc.Not only that I would be willing to bet there are more discussomatrats like myself who would like to see pics and video of that machine in depth.
