Whirlpool Rinse Help

I have had two Kitchen Aid Washers which I thought were the best. They failed to rinse the suds away unless on second rinse. The first one is still going 93 model in rental property. The second 98 just bit the dust frozen motor, which I tried to repair and said the hell with it. If it had been belt drive, yes. The matching dryer oddly enough is about to go it is squeeking. I have replaced the washer with an old 91 Maytag and am happy as can be. If you want new, get a Speed Queen.

Experience with DD

I had a 1991 model that lasted for 16 years. The only repair I ever did on it was to replace the ratchet inside the agitator that drives the "corkscrew". When I got rid of it, it was still working but spinning was kind of slow, and at the beginning of a spin it made a noise kind of like the noise that drum brakes on old cars used to make. Also, I think the spin had gotten slower, although it was hard to say for sure. It was hard on clothes, and the capacity wasn't great. That was OK when I was a bachelor, but my dear wife didn't like what it did to her delicates, and she got tired of having to break everything up into a zillion loads. And it never did wash sheets or comforters that well.

Replaced them last year with a Harmony set.

Whirlpool DD

We have a Whirlpool DD which we bought reconditioned from a local appliance store. We have been very pleased with it so far. It's a top of the line model with a three speed motor, manually selected agitation/spin speeds, and the electronic temperature sensor and adjustable end of cycle/second rinse. It's a wonderful machine that has done MANY loads of clothes with only one (very minor) repair.

The only downside I've run into with it is the clunks, ka-chunks, etc that it makes, and the tendency to be hard on clothes IF OVERLOADED (don't overload the machine, and it's fine).

Otherwise, it cleans clothes very well (one of the few that has come close to my old GM Frigidaire in cleaning), has a very respectable capacity, and has been durable. I would get that design again. I agree it's about the best TL design currently around

Now that I've had time to consider, I've given my heart (but not the sheckles..yet) to a Speed Queen TL. If I'm going to get a TL, it's going to be a Speed Queen. Their FL's are nice too, if not a little spartan, but one can get their TOL model with boosted 140 F heat for about $1,300.00 $299.00 more and you can get a Miele 4800. Hmm......
