Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I've been on that site before, but that totally awesome silent clip wasn't there at that time. Thanks!

With the use of Video Download Helper, I was able to save that video to my hard drive. I also sent the secretary of the club an email about my Maytag set, and a really good plug for AW.org.

I am familar with this club. I have contacted some of the members in order to get some information on my Maytag wringer. They are a very knoweldgeable group of people. The video is very cool. I just love the greatest breakthrough in the history of laundry, Maytag's famous Gyrator action!!!

If you managed to catch the short shot, that machine had a tall drive post. When CU tested washers sometime in the early decades of the 20th century, one of the tests for the durability of the machines was to fill them up with water and dissolve washing soda or other alkali used to "break" the water before adding the soap. This solution was allowed to sit in the tub for an extended period and then the machine was checked for signs of corrosion. The Maytag's tall drive post showed damage and CU posted a picture. That led to Maytag's developing the famous low post drive where the air bell under the Gyrator protected the drive components from the water.

Great vintage video footage

Interesting post from Tom-turbomatic. I wondered why Maytag wringer washers didn't have a regular high agitator drive post. Not sure what, or who "CU" is....a predecessor of UL?

Maytag Wringers Washer's

Cannot remember the whole story, but IIRC, when the first Maytag wringers came out they damaged quite allot of laundry. Something about how the washer's agitator was designed to sit on the post. Mr. Maytag had the design revised and that was the end of the damage, and Maytag learned a valuable lesson about building "dependable quality".

What year was my Maytag Wringer washer made?

Trying to find out what year my Maytag ringer washer was made. Serial number is 614999W
Any help would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!
