I finally got my Maytag compact F/L (MAH2400AWW) this morning. It was a tight fit but it did fit in my washer closet and I was able to put the door back up (to hide the old almond colored dryer! I hate to hide the little Maytag it's so cute!). I've already done three loads of laundry and am generally pleased. For the most part, it's VERY quiet. The only time it really makes noise is when it's draining and then may only seem louder because it is so quiet up to that point. I was able to find this one at Sears for $30.00 less than any other store in Dallas and they had it installed within 24-hours of purchase (and on a Saturday too!). Has anyone else had any experience yet with the new Maytag compact pair?

price on Maysung

We have the same model at Home Depot for $649.I don't know how you missed out on that.We also have a rebate(mail in)on the delivery($50)and set up including removal of the old unit.

Shows me I shouldn't depend on the website to have the updated price :-) I'd been watching online at both Sears and Home Depot and had only seen the sale at Sears (even then, the price online had gone back up to $699 this last week but in the store it was still $669). I certainly could have found something to do with the extra $20...probably before I got out of Home Depot!
 
First Impressions

Well, I've had the machine for 24 hours and am in love with it so far! I'm still of the option that the quality of the Maytag is much better than the Whirlpool compact I looked over at Lowes. The Maytag, though it has lots of plastic, feels solid. Even the buttons have a solid feel when you push them to adjust settings. I've washed 7 loads of laundry since it was installed yesterday, from shirts and shorts to linens to towels. It's handled everything well. I think the only thing I same across was that the sheets had a heavy scent from the detergent. I'd halved the amount of detergent called for on the back of the bottle (Arm & Hammer HE) as I figured it was calculated for a full size F/L but I think I may have to adjust downwards some more due to the compact size. No fault of the machine, just the user :-) One thing I didn't think I'd like at first but have grown to like very much is the chime that sounds when the wash is finished. I find it gets my attention and I'm more likely to get up and put the clothes in the dryer. The old T/L unit, maybe I'd remember to check if the wash had finished but often I wouldn't for hours and sometimes overnight. A minor feature but useful. One thing they could do is to make the volumn adjustable. It's pretty unobtrusive and is fine for my small condo but others with larger homes might want to be able to adjust it louder. I'm very happy with the number of different pre-programed settings that can be set from the dial (yet can still be overridden using the buttons to adjust water temp, spin speed, etc.). I'll continue to periodically update my experience with the unit...hopefully it'll help others with buying decisions since his product is fairly new.
 
They're pulling the Danby FL out of the Home Depot's around here and replacing them with those Maytag FL. One of the things I like about the Danby is that it has a built-in water heater. Does the Maytag have that? I also like the variable spin speed the Danby is equipped with, looks like the Maytag has that too. Sounds like you've had good results with that machine. I'm interested in hearing how the machine does in the long run. I've always had a penchant for the little compact machines!

Overall, I imagine the Maytag will be a bit better received from the public than the Danby nameplate because it's recognized more. The price is about $150 or so higher than the comparabliy sized /equipped Danby's at the same store.
