Maytag DE-750 Dryers weekend Find

I found both of these Maytag DE-750 dryers from an old appliance shop in the desert. I have been wanting one of these for my Maytag collection but to find two of them in one day was more than a good find it was awesome luck. These are real hard to find well lets re-phrase, impossible to find the Brown coppertone is rare but to find a springtime yellow color is like gold !! Both needed new plugs and all the console lights replaced with a good cleaning and some pulley lube they purr like a kitten and dry awesome

Well, Don't I have Pushbotton Envy -

Beautiful machines John. Pushbutton Maytags are just comming up like weeds lately everywhere but for me <G> --- I've been hitting used appliance stores / thrift shops / criagslist for two months now and all I've seen is that the junk I wouldn't buy in the 80's is now today's 30 year old "vintage applinance".

BTW, out of curiosity, what desert city did you get them from?

Really Nice Finds

I was wondering on regular do these dry hotter and faster than todays new fangled junk or is the temp. about the same? Congrats Harvest those are some nice finds.

Drying Speed

I can't say anything about a DE-750 from personal experience, but my "new" Maytag DE-606 (from around 1976-1979) dries much, much faster than my '89 Whirlpool Design 2000 ever did. And like the DE-750, it's awesomely quiet.

Maytag HOH dryers were not noted for speed. The electric element was lower wattage than in other dryers of the time and the gas burner had a lower BTU rating. This was because the element was so close to the clothes at the front of the drum and the flame from the burner below the door had to be kept low to prevent burning the felt seals. Actually, since the evaporation of water has a cooling effect, the load stayed around 110 degrees while drying. The temperature rose just before the cycle ended, but could not go too high since the electronic control terminated the cycle. The Permanent Press button actually allowed the dryer to heat the load to around 160 because that was the temperature that the fabrics needed to give the best performance. Permanent Press was also the cycle to be selected if you wanted dryer clothes or heavy seams dried completely.

If a HOH dryer had a blower that was out of balance or belts with flat places the dryer would really shake and shudder.
