my de406 dryer sounds like its binding when you first start it up , i took the blower apart on the blower fan #300-843 you have to brass bearings they fit in bakelite bushing's on the pulley side the bushing is solid , on the fan side the bakelite bushing rotates , is this normal? my dryer drum spins freely, i had the motor looked at and they said it was fine ,any suggestions?

An old dog is about to learn a new trick

There was a kit available to press new bearings into the blower. However, good luck finding anybody who still has the tools and knowledge to do that.

This is not to be confused with the drum bearing kit.

I used to snatch up these blowers all day long for $10 on Ebay less than a decade ago. Now you're lucky to find one at any price these days.

The bearings probably went bad from lack of oil. I oiled the heck out of the bearings when I was in the process of restoring my 1973 Maytag DG306 2 years ago back in 2019 and I’ll oil everything again since I plan on servicing it this spring. Always clean out any lint and oil the rollers, bearings or any other part inside the dryer while I have it apart every spring.

The bearing probably seized up on the shaft from lack of lubrication and then spun inside the Bakelite housing. This is why I spent many years here urging everybody who wants to keep these dryers around for the long-haul to immediately perform a complete tear down and lubricate the drum bearings, blower bearings, and reduction pulley bearing. Lubricating the motor bearings would buy some additional time for a now obsolete motor.

John, I was just giving you hard time about the bearings. I'm sure you were aware of their existence but servicemen probably quit replacing them when the 70's rolled around. Same goes for rebuilding 202203 pumps.
