Maytag DE806 questions

More of a KM/WP guy here, but came across this very nice looking Maytag dryer.

How well do these perform as compared to the "classic" design KM/WP dryers?

Does this have a lighted console as it appears it may?

And where is the lint filter? Is it the round thing in the center of the rear bulkhead, almost like the WP portables?

The console is lighted, and the lint filter is inside the drum at the center of the back surface as you've already guessed. As to performance I'll leave that to folks that have experience with these machines, but quite a few members of this blog love them.

Maytag DE806 Dryer

Nice looking dryer and yes the control panel lights up.

 

These were well built sturdy dryers, but compared to a post 1966 WP 29" dryer they did not stack up well performance well.

 

They are smaller in capacity and slower at drying, the electronic dry control lacks flexibility.

 

It is much harder to work on than a WP and some parts are getting rare.

 

If you are up to something different and maybe a challenge this could be a fun project.

For $25 it's a no-brainer! That's scrap parts price, for a desirable machine in working condition.

The lint filter is a bit odd, but not terrible. The drum light and lighted console are great. And the electronic dry control, though it does lack flexibility, always seems to do a good job for us.

I'd be all over that if it was local to me.

Since I have a 1963 Whirlpool Imperial dryer and a 1973 Maytag DG306 all I can say is they are both good dryers. The HOH dryers are on the slow side but if you want something that’s easy on your ears a HOH is the dryer for you since they are quiet and about the only thing you’ll hear is laundry tumbling inside or near the burner cycle on and off if you have a gas HOH dryer.
