Maytag DG 906

Hi Guys,

I am selling my beloved DG906 white Maytag gas dryer since I am moving and have no gas or propane hookups where I am going.

I got it around 2006 and put in a new felt drum seal, front and back, new gas burner, new pilot capilary tube and pilot assembly, light ballast and new electronic drying sensor motherboard.

See pictures in my way previous posts, or just search DG906 in this forum and you will find it.

It is a beautiful machine and I want it to go to someone in this group who will appreciate it and the work I have done on it.

Question to anyone out there.

I really like the idea of this machine, but I'm a little nervous about having a standing pilot in a dryer. Is there any way to convert this machine to use an electric ignition? I have a DG309 non-HoH model that I'd be willing to scrap, if need be. Not sure its feasable, though.

Thoughts?

Late model 806/906 dryers had electronic ignition so it's very much possible.

I wonder if the parts from my 309 would work. I imagine the burner assembly is the same. Does anyone have diagrams?

Nope.

The 906 is a Halo of Heat dryer and the 309 is a Big Load dryer. They are completely different beasts. There may be some shared small parts, but I wouldn't put my money on it.

It would likely be easier to find a low-end electric Halo of Heat dryer like a DE306 and convert to electric.

Of course, if late Halo of Heat gas dryers did have electronic ignition, I would try to find those parts.

If you wanted to retrofit electronic ignition onto a pilot light equipped dryer, I assume you would need to install an ignitor, a way to turn it on and off, and a time-delay on the gas valve to give the ignitor time to warm up before the gas comes on.

Gas can be dangerous, s modify carefully and take all possible precautions.

HOH GAS DRYERS

I never heard of a MT HOH gas dryer with electric ignition. Maybe they made special models for the california market as I know that California long ago banned standing pilots in ranges and gas dryers and most other gas burning appliances. But please show us some proof parts lists or something. The DG906 was dropped by the mid 1970s. That said its not real hard to convert a HOH gas dryer to electric ignition, it takes the complete gas burner assembly from a newer dryer and some cleaver reengineering I did it once many years ago.

Thanks for the info guys. I would love the machine, but I don't feel comfortable with a standing pilot. I don't have the diagrams to figure out if I could successfully swap in the burner from my newer machine, and maybe its heresy anyway, on such a nice machine.

There are Big Load 800 series gas dryers out there, though, right?
