A neighbor who bought a front loader, wants to sell me this for $125.00. It looks like a top of the line Maytag for 1995 or 1996. Nice machine, but are the keypads of this era troublesome? It is a dependable care machine, so I am extremely tempted. Oh, and it is white, with white control panel, but some yellowing around the digital display screen.

BUY BUY BUY BUY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and take pictures when you do

Phil it doesn't happen to look like this, does it? Man, oh man, this is a dream machine if so! Better jump all over it.

I fell in love with this machine when I saw it in Newton. Funny thing is I've never seen one anywhere else.

Ben, I see those around Reno a bit. Seems to me the most common problem I see with them is the membraine over the button wears thru and exposes the black button. I haven't replaced any for fuctional issues yet.

Phil,

I have this machine without the keypads. It's a good basic washer, but not like helical drive 'tags in a couple of ways:
1. Spray rinses are minimal and not very effective.
2. The agitator isn't as good as a turquoise power-fin, although they will fit in this machine.
3. Deep rinse is also minimal (unless you can adjust rinse time with the digital control)
4. Agitation arc is smaller than helical drives.
5. Bleach dispenser is really just a bleach flume, no mechanism there.
6. Does have wash water temp valve.

I always thought the digital keypads on these machines were like the ones on the BD Whirlpools, i.e. lipstick on nice pigs.

This is not the glorious A906 for which you quest. Although I think perfection would be this digital control somehow retro-fitted onto the button bank of a 906. Egad, have I blasphemed?

Ken,

So you're saying this is a Dependable Care Minus?

I am going to pass and seek the Grail (A906).
I just saw Spamalot, and why did they refer to the time in which they were living as the Middle Ages when so far they didn't know what came after?

It is available on Syracuse Craigslist if anyone is interested and looks to be in fine shape.
